Meh, if you can see it from the street, it's public. How is it different from anyone walking down the road and looking at your house as they pass?
Seriously, I think people get too paranoid about "Privacy" and have a totally unreasonable expectation of it. If it can be seen from a public location, then it is PUBLIC. You certainly have the option of putting up a fence or (if you don't want to be a total prude) can ask Google to remove or blur any images that contain your property. This is done at no charge on request.

Well it is a little bit different, in that if somebody wants to take a look at your house they can do it from the street but then they actually have to be there but this way just about anybody can hop on the Internet and have a look, though I feel fairly okay in that they have not got around to putting up a decent sat view of my part of the World yet so the street scapes should be a bit off yet. I picked a street in Fairbanks Alaska and it was fun going along the road, Google should bring out a car simulator like they have an aircraft simulator, allthough one would need a fairly decent broadband link for it to work smoothly. This is the time to start worrying - before Google becomes live/real-time. It will be too late to stop it then.

Actually if it got to real time, I think you would start to see a new class of mental illness in that people would start to get confused between the real world as experienced by being in it and Google World, I know there is Television allready but a 24/7 Google live street scape would be several orders of magnitude above television in terms of immersive effect.

I've seen the odd web cam where it has been fixed on a street view, it can get a bit boring after a while, but think if you parked your car somewhere or you could keep an eye on your house while at work, if you had access to a PC that is.
As for privacy, I think the that is becoming more and more open, as you posted Google Earth going live, street cams, and there is the other type of invasion where they can tell who you phoned, what you look at on the Net, financial details etc, (Big Brother Stuff).
