Nice pics.
My father was stationed for a few months at Castle during WWII in 1943. At that time it was known as Merced Army Air Field. He was a Pilot Instructor 2nd Lt.

I would have needed a person to stand by the main gear to get a "feel" for the size of that linkage......massive. Stefan It is indeed a huge son of a gun !! ;D

Very nice photos, Dave. Here is one that I took last October when we held our military reunion at WPAFB. This was our third trip there. Note the size of the two bombs on the right side of the bird. They actually appear larger when you see them for real. The folks at the Museum say the B-36 is their most popular plane to be photographed. Jesse

Nice to see all those great aircraft at Castle AFB. Great photos! Thanks for sharing them. I'm glad that they were able to keep the museum open after the base closed. I was stationed there myself in the 80's. Now a lot of the base on gone or falling apart from what I understand. I have not been back in a few years. Each memorial day weekend they have open cockpit day on Sunday's. One of these days I'll make it back to that.
