Heres our girl updated to 32 bit and the metal reworked using some newer techniques than the ones used back in the day. A few more tweaks and I'll upload her to avsim for those that want it. One thing I wish I had was a panel that was also more current, using current techniques and updated VC. (I am an exclusive FS9 guy.) This bird does hold the test of time. I enjoy flying this model as well as any I have, including payware. Eric

I like the update! nicely done, I'll be looking for it. Don't forget the Ice Stripe! For an added point of realism for the "K", in the acft config add a double rotating beacon on the empenage aft of the horizontal stab for the rendezvous beacon. How do you lower the boom on the "K" in FSX? Here is a screenshot of the 'L jets on FSX, I'm not having any trouble with them. Check which "parts.bmp" you have, and check the alpha maybe? --Dan --Dan

Beautiful job, Eric. You are a real artist. Thanks Tom. I went to avsim to try to get updated FDE and MDL files which you alude to in the planes page on calclassic. The files were apparently lost in the Avsim crash. Do you still have them? Eric

Tom do you have my email address? ejoiner2 at gmail.com
If you could send me the C97 mdl files and whatever FDE amends there are that would be good.
Much appreciate the help. I can put all this in an update kit for my paint when ready I guess.

Eric - fantastic looking artwork on the new repaint.
Dan - are you using FSX SP1 or SP2? My base K97L is the same California ANG but I don't see the yellow textured bits so am a bit envious! Lower the boom I think by hitting the "T" tailhook key(?).

expat, can you send me whatever prop textures you are using in the original image for this thread? I am fairly unhappy with the prop textures that were in the original upload and want something more feathered and less disk like. This may be an FS9 vs FSX thing, but I have yet to see a good 4 bladed prop texture for FS9.
Tom can you advise if there is a modelling aspect also to the prop texture rendering? I can make my own prop textures with a very nice blur effect, but if the model somehow renders a disk, then no avail.

Got the boom working, thanks! Now I just need someone with a B-47 to try an enroute rendezvous & toboggan.
I'm using FSX-A, the KC-97parts.bmp I'm using is not the one from the base package, but from kc97lfix.zip available at flightsim.com. It has a 2008 date.
Inspired by this thread, I tweaked the front VC a little, and started building a FE panel background from scratch, Ill post screenshots in a few days to show how it turns out.

We have a project! Going to do some more work on the VC panel and also play around with smoke, Shockwave lights etc.
Eric - I have PM'd you with my email address and happy to send you the prop textures or anything else you would like to have.

Jets sorted! Thanks very much for the fix file reference. Funny how one can search and search when working on a specifc plane and never find all the relevant files! ]

Hi Eric, AFAIK there is nothing different between the prop disks of the '97's and the rest of Gregs models. C-97 model sent.

Tom, that's what I find with FS9 but also that they do display differently in FSX. Jets ARE for kids - though here there is adequate Parental Guidance (Rated PG) ;D

We have a project! Excellent!, Let it be known-On February 27th, 2010 at 0547AM (EST), on the Screenshot Forum of Calclassic.com, the CalClassic Team Strat - Boeing 376 / 377 models update project was born. With a little bit of work and polish we can easily bring these timeless beauties up to true CalClassic levels. I am working on the BMPs for an interchangeable full-screen 2D FE panel that would work similarly to the Connie’s. The plan is to have a version for the 377, C-97 A/G/L, and KC-97 A/G/L If there are any gauge coders out there, I can build the BMP's but I could use some help creating single-needle off-axis gauges based on the current Strat' MP and RPM gauges. Specifically, we need: Fuel Flow Fuel Pressure Carb Air Temp Torque (Boeing used torque PSI not BMEP) CHT Oil Pressure Oil Temp It looks like ejoiner has a beautiful livery update needing an update package to compliment it. Anyone out there able to overhaul the .cfg fuel system so the tankers and G models can more accurately be simulated? Would it be possible to create the extra beacons and underbody/wing/tail floods on the tanker? The PDI lights should be pretty simple. All of the “L” textures need to be updated for windows, nacelle floods, etc. OK Expat, you started this monster, where do you want us to go? Maybe you should start a thread in the main area soliciting input from other resident experts. --Dan

Not sure about everyone else, but I think an update effort would be of best effect if we ended up with something that worked in FSX as well as FS9. With the paintwork by Eric looking mighty good, the heaviest lifting left is on the panel and gauge work. Existing visual model and sounds are fine. Dan you seem to be well underway on the gauges and panel work. I can help on the panel.cfg but not very good on gauge creation. I can contribute light, prop and smoke air.cfg entries etc. later. Will post a cross reference on the main board. Thanks to all.
