Hi all, Since I pay over $100 per year for my main site, I use the free Proboards forums here. That means they include advertisements. I don't have control over ads, Proboards does. While distasteful ads are not specifically against Proboards rules, if you object to an advertisement you can complain to Proboards in this Proboards forum thread: support.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=support&thread=342847&page=12You will need to Register and Log In to their forum to make a post. Hope this helps,

According to Proboards, you can press Ctrl-Alt-R to report any "adult" ads that load while using this forum.
Hope this helps,

How ironic...one of the offenders loaded just as I opened this thread! Thanks for the info Tom.

Hi,
Now this is just funny. Has anyone noticed that since we started talking about the EA "hockey stick" paints, there are now ads up top for skates, shoulder pads, jerseys, and, yes, hockey sticks? Just an observation. ;D

I have noticed that the ads follow pretty closely the subject of the post on the forum. It is probably programmed into the server that when certain words show up, it keys the commercial ad with the nearest similarity. Big Brother is still watching us.

Privacy is an illusion... Speaking of privacy...here is an excellent example of how far reaching the problem is. Watch out for those copy machines. Jesse www.wimp.com/copymachines/

And, IIRC, the Proboards ads are "personalized" meaning that you get ads aimed at what the tracking cookie learns about your browsing habits. Randy's looking at the EA "hockey stick" livery is why he was getting ads for hockey equipment. I was just checking Facebook, and when I came on here, I got an ad for "Facebook layouts"... So, if you're getting "adult" ads, someone was probably looking around those sites, either by intent of accident. I know, for example, if you Google "breast cancer" the engine hits that first word and lists sites containing the word - many of which are adult sites, as the people who run those sites include the word "breast" in the site's metadata and thus you find stuff you had no intention, or desire, to find. This is the downside of the web, always has been, always will be. Blocking software can stop access to certain sites, but when a generalized term like "breast" is included in the filter, it will also block non-adult sites dealing with, oh, breast cancer. I worked years for ISPs, and this was a constant complaint, and nobody ever liked my explanations, but it is true, as the sleaze out there - be it pornographers, spammers, phishers, you name it - they will always find a way to get around every block. Delete cookies after every session, that is my best suggestion, as these track where you go and what you do - and they are tottaly legal.

I did that Maarten and google substitued wild mushrooms instead of wild rice. But that's okay. I love mushrooms with my spatzle and ruladen.

Jesse It's a good thing I only have two weeks to go before heading home to the fatherland for vacation...and of course Mama's cooking. Which will absolutely include SpƤtzle in copious amounts as befitting true Schwabian Cuisine. The ads themselves don't bother me and I certainly understand Tom's reason for using the free ProBoards. Sometimes the ads do hang up my connection it seems....and that does irritate a bit. Stefan

That's what I miss most Stefan. I think in the four years that I worked in Germany, I must have put on at least 50 pounds. Germanic cooking just can't be beat IMHO. Bon Appetite. Jesse

I'm just wondering... I'm using the Firefox browser with the built-in Ad-Blocker. I don't see any advertising here on this forum. Could it be? Dee

I have it set to block popup windows and still see the ads. I don't see Ad-Blocker as a choice...
