Just got back from a men's conference outside of Spokane. On the way up, we stopped at my pastor's old church at Missoula. The building is right up against the airport fence at KMSO, and right outside the back door were 3 Neptunes and an F27. They belong to Neptune Aviation, the company that just lost the Neptune outside of Las Vegas a little while ago. It looks like they are either parting them out or combining 3 aircraft into one. I told my pastor that I wanted some Neptunes at our church and he said "What's a Neptune?" (he was thinking of King Neptune in "The Little Mermaid"). Oh well.

Two of the aircraft that I saw had a large radome under the belly of the aircraft. I wouldn't think that they would be as suitable for water bombers, which made me wonder whether they were just providing parts for the other one which seemed to be the most complete. The F-27 was all white with no markings except an N number. Speaking of oddities, I was driving past the airport the other day, when I saw a 737 landing. It had a huge TED painted on the side. I assume it's some charter operation, but I've never seen that before. With Ted Turner owning a huge ranch not 15 miles from my house, it occurred to me that it might belong to him, but I don't think even he could afford such a large aircraft. It might have been another aircraft, anymore, airliners all look so generic, I'm having a harder time telling one from another (Oh look! Another tubeliner with a fan under each wing. Yawn.

Ted was United's low fare subsidiary, now defunct. I assume the new owners haven't repainted it yet. Hope this helps,

All of the TED aircraft were brought back into the mainline fleet Tom. They're just not in any hurry to repaint them (just as they weren't in a hurry to repaint the 737s after the demise of United Shuttle/Shuttle by United).

They don't have the money to pay for a paint job. Also I heard from some United guys, that most of those TED birds will be parked & / or sold.

Yesterday a Water Bomber Neptune flew right over my house! I assume the jets were off and it was just cruising on the 3350's. I guess it was out of Fox Field in Lancaster fighting the Sylmar fire. The winds are too high for anything but the Canidair Super Scoopers today.

I usually get to see water bombers around here every summer, but this year, with the cold long spring we had, we still had snow on the mountains all through August, which hasn't happened in years, so I don't remember seeing one all summer. Back in '88, with the Yellowstone fires, it looked like Berlin in '44 around here (okay, I exaggerated a little bit there).
