Hey folks, I notice that the C-46 VC uses many default DC-3 gauges.
Is it possible to change the VC cockpit so it doesn't use them at a lower resolution? Something as simple as a panel config change? I am not all that developer savvy but I can change numbers in the config
I am sure this has been asked before but I could not find it in a search of the old forums
Great aircraft, and I appreciate it being made FSX ready Thanks, William

Hi,
Sorry, I've never done anything with resolution adjustments in the panel.cfg file, sorry. I think you might be able to code gauges to swap bitmaps, but I think that's about it.
Hope this helps,

Hi William i've looked at the c46 vc cockpit and it is the size of the gauge them selfs that is the problem the c46 panel is much smaller than the dc3 and closer to you so to fit the gauges in the panel they are about half the size so causing the pixel problem ,you may be able to re size the gauge bitmaps using a paint program? but make a back up copy of the gauges file first rgds Edd

Extracting the bitmaps for editing is easy enough but it is a bit harder toi recompile the cab file afterwards. There is a DOS utility in the SDK to do it.
I did exactly this in a set of gauges I made which were a modification of the DC-3 ones for more clarity and also so they could be used in four-engine aircraft. You will find these at AVSIM under file name jh4p.zip if they are of any use.

Thanks for the reply guys. I think I get the drift of what you are saying. The most complicated thing I have done is change alpha channels to get props looking right again on the Howard 500 and other port overs to FSX.
I was not really starting out to attempt any big project with the C-46, I just wanted to add one gauge. I fly almost exclusively in Alaska in FSEconomy and really need to be able to fly ILS approaches.
Well I added the default DHC-2 guage to replace the Gyro compass. I was sad to see that it also lost its clarity. That did get me wondering though, If that gauge is being changed ,then perhaps they all are good and can be made clear again.
I could probably resize in a paint program but I don't know much about SKDs and Cab files and such.
I'll look up your gauges John and see what happens.
Thanks again everyone for taking the time to enlighten me! William

Hi,
This probably has to do more with the C-46 MDL file than anything else. A VC texture area (there can be many) has a fixed resolution. Therefore if the plane's author makes that area large, then the resolution will be quite low. If he/she makes it small, the resolution will be high.
Nothing you can do at this point...
Hope this helps,
