Yes useful to have an XP backup. It worries me slightly that eventually MS might introduce a Windows version that no longer "supports" FS9 Bill

I just bought a new XP computer exactly for that reason - so I'll have a backup when my current one goes... This reminds me of the times when Italian government was in the use of warning that gasoline would get more expensive from the day after tomorrow... and a lot of people went and topped their tanks thinking to have got one up on the SOBs in the position of power... Sooner or later... the tank WILL get dry anyway... and you'll HAVE to buy new gasoline at the new price. For it to be a real solution, the problem is not to be faced at the end of the business, but at the source. Else it's only putting a bottle stopper to the sinking Titanic... noble attempt maybe, but useless anyway.

My two cents is that it's too early to tell from just that teaser video what Flight will be like. We'll know sooner or later. I doubt that it'll stop me from flying propliners in FS9.

I think what we're seeing is Microsoft's focus shift to X-Box gamer's mentality. Basically the "instant gratification" crowd that would never find the "fun" in a true sim. A year or two(ish) ago I got a survey email from Microsoft Games regarding what I'd like to see in the next FS version. Most of the questions were about very arcade-like features that had no place in a simulator. I can't but wonder if "Flight" is going to be the end result of that survey.

Just look on the brightside, atleast we don't get another half baked sim like FSX, even FS9 is not that great. (both from their basic forms) Both heavely rely on mods and addons that make them to what they are today. That and the fact that there just isn't anything better at the moment. But rumor has it that Aerosoft is working on a new flight sim.

Yeah, FS9 is not that great "out of the box", but it's something you can BUILD on to make something BETTER...
FSX has another philosophy, once you have it "out of the box", you must begin CUTTING to make it merely USABLE...
I guess we all will see about this "Flight", but personally, I'm not holding my breath.

I'm a little bit confused. I thought that MS has closed the development-department of flight-simulation (ACER). I fly online with FS9 by IVAO (www.ivao.aero). There you can start a career as a pilot or a controller for free.
best regards Holger

Hi
They did indeed close ACES. This project is coming from a different group.

Hi, Here's an interesting question about the photo on the right on the Microsoft Flight preview page. A bare-chested man or woman? Yours,

They will pry FS9 out of my cold, dead hands. Along with MSTS and another couple of oldies. Oh, and while I have been "away" on my little train sim sabatical, I found Eric Cantu... he is active and "over there"...

Let's hope we'll find some volunteer able to code a solution and ready to patch FS9 and whatever else sim back to full functionality, the day in which " someone" will " innocently" decide to change something in their soft/hardware under the ever so weak excuse of making newer games more performing, then. Disclaimer: The not-so subtle jab to the problems of Crimson Skies ever since V 61.xx of the nVidia Forceware and the willingness of nVidia to ignore any and every request to add a compatibility flag is EVERYTHING BUT unintended.
