Canadian Management Comes South (to Chicago)
Midway Airport Privatized: Canadian Company Takes Over
Midway Airport in Chicago will become the first major airport in the U.S. to be privatized and it will be run by a Canadian company. Vancouver Airport Services, which runs Vancouver International Airport and 17 other airports in British Columbia, the Caribbean, South America and Europe, was the successful bidder for a $2.5 billion deal that will include a lease on Midway for 99 years."This contract marks a milestone in the growth of our company, and is a clear example of how we can leverage our success at home to develop the best airports in the world," Larry Berg, president and CEO of the Vancouver Airport Authority, which owns half of Vancouver Airport Services, told The Canadian Press.
The landmark deal is the first in an FAA pilot project. Chicago has asked to privatize as many as five of its airports. The Midway deal must be ratified by Chicago city council but it's already been blessed by Mayor Richard Daley. Midway handle about 19.3 million passengers in 2007, about two million more than Vancouver International. The deal will net Chicago about $1 billion but the deal requires that 90 percent of that go into airport improvements.

Doesn't it seem to you like out government, local, state and federal, both Democrat and Republican, are little more than corporate raiders selling off our nation's assets to the highest bidder?

Well..look at what bush tried to do...sell the security division of our Ports to a Middle East based company. Now im all for free enterprise and all,but there is a line that needs not be crossed. Many,Many countries have been buying up US land and with foreign asests holding the mortgages to alot of peoples homes, its a matter of time before these countries try to directly influence our Gov't. I say Blahhhhhhhhh to Politics and Greed...

And I'd like to add it to our state, and retire there. Hey, it worked here with Hawaii. Just purchase you some orchards and soon you'll be adding another star to our flag...

Ya know, Tom, up in Canada they call Britsh Columbia British California. Noel Lotusland, People's Republic of British Columbia, Bee Cee, Land of the Newly Wed, Nearly Dead and Welfare Fed and the Far Left Coast perhaps but after living here for 15-years I have never heard it referred to as "British California". Over beers one can find a small but vocal movement to join Washington, Oregon and BC together as the Republic of Cascadia. Chris (from Vancouver Island)
