Hi, More from FSAviator. These are spectacular photos, and be sure to press the Info On button so you see the captions: More or less off topic I know but probably worth pointing to: www.flickr.com/photos/74784995@N00/sets/72157604727564944/show/ to illustrate aviation in Palestine before and just after the building of Lydda. Some nice detailed aviation photos anyway. Regards, FSAviator

Hi,
I've uploaded a new AI Traffic file that moves the few flights we had on Saturday at LLBG in the 1962 file. No traffic after 1800 GMT on Friday, and none on Saturday until after that. The 1957 and 1959 traffic is a mess; someone would need to code BEA in 1959 to get that fixed...
Hope this helps,

Only creating a read me file, and a larger Ground2K4 landclass is left. I want to exclude more of Tel Aviv. Tom should get my files either tonight or tomorrow by noon. He will have to package this, create the auto installer, and then all of you can get the beta when he is done. This weekend, perhaps?
I still want to know more about this mysterious eagle and what it is doing up there on the front of the terminal building. I have searched the web and other than these postcards from the 50s I can't find out anything. Did Imperial Airways have some eagle like this, or the RAF? Is this from Palestine Airways?

Hi Mike - This is very speculative but could be worth a closer look.. A quick Google search on sculptor e harvey produced hits for an Eli Harvey, an American Quaker, who seems to have mainly worked in bronze but also did public art on stonework for zoo parks and so on. Wildlife features prominently in his work. I just wonder if the creature is maybe the Phoenix (symbol of rebirth) rather than an eagle ? Hope this is not a red herring ! MikeW

That first link in FSAviator's post shows the eagle better than before. It's described as a "flying eagle". I doubt that this was Eli Harvey, since he did lifelike animal bronzes. I don't find any other references on the web to an E Harvey who did similar works (in a quick search).

As you know, the trouble with these things is, the further you look, the deeper in you get. The sculpture could refer to myth - An Eagle was a symbol for the Sun god, Ba'al; it could be ancient history/legend - the Eagle was a symbol of Babylonia; or it could be a biblical allusion, of which I found several. That's quite enough for me. I was amused by the biblical one saying "...thou shalt not eat of the eagle..." Seems airline food was just as awful in them days as it is today ;D All the Best MikeW

The old terminal, or what's left of it, is at the east end of the airport. The new terminal is west of that, and both are on the south side. The terminal in the scenery is now all modernized and boxed in, and is the VIP terminal, and used for special immigrant flights. Everything else in the scenery is gone.
