Hi, while we were happily chatting away about engine failures, we maybe forgot a quite basic question: You are using the default DC-3 along with the default flight dynamics? If it doesn't work as it should, it might be due to the fact that the default DC-3 only vaguely resembles the real life performance. You might want to try this: douglasdc3.com/fs2004/fs2004.htm. Haven't tried it myself, but it might be worth a check anyway. Best regards, Volker

Look for the file name on AVSIM or one of the other freeware sites. It's out there but I don't recall the exact site. Improves the default DC-3's handling quite a bit, but personally the fuzzy default gauges/vc still drive me crazy.

Well, as in the real world, an engine failure can really get the campfire discussions going! I'm using Volker's C-47, with his FDE. I've also tried Trev Morson's FDE, but as Johan says it's too sluggish. In fact, 'sluggish' is way too mild. Slothful is more like it! regards ~T

... I'm using Volker's C-47, with his FDE. ... ?? Manfred? I changed the link, by the way, and you'll have to scroll down a bit. There are also alternative FDEs available by Beaumont and Bitzer at the usual download sites. Best regards, Volker

Volker, do you recommend Beamont and Bitzer's alternatives? It looks interresting. Tested?

That would then make it Manfred's wonderful model with the soso FDE from the default DC3 or am I missing something. My not so reliable bionic recollection unit is telling me that out of the box this is what Manfred used.
In other words it is much prettier but flies as good or as bad as the default DC3
Cheers Stefan

Hi,
I am pretty sure Manfred used the default VC and FDE with his excellent external model.
I have to admit that my default DC-3 uses the default FDE - I am not flying it anyway, just the MAAM version. But there is enough difference that I noticed it right away I got into the left seat of the MAAM the day it became available.
Best regards, Volker

Volker, thats a too diplomatic answer. For us who dont MAAM, did you tested the Bitzer FDE? any comments on that sir ?

First of, there is no reason not to MAAM....it simply is that good. And of course the money spent on the FS bird goes toward the upkeep of the real thing.
But that aside, I have tested most of the FDEs I have seen for the default DC3 in the past. Some where better than others in replicating the real performance, some when used with the correct panel replicated the systems more closely.
None that I have come across however did match the MAAM, which brings us back around to my first sentence ;D
Cheers Stefan

No, I didn't test it myself, but never felt the need for it. It was just a suggestion to alternative FDEs; I have to admit that I can't make a recommendation. Best regards, Volker

The MAAM is a great bird which, as far as I can compare with what I have heard from real life DC-3 pilots (DDA Classic Airlines) and what I have read, is very close to the real R-1830 powered plane.
