This will be the first FS launch since FS98 that I will not participate in... I can see why. Insider information indicated this to be "a flight simulator that is a bit less simulator and streamlined to be a bit more game." Russ

Mostly it's because our scenery most certainly will not be compatible (since it's not compatible with FSX), and if the rumors that FS9 aircraft are not compatible then virtually nothing in the propliner world will work in it (except Jens' and A2A aircraft, and a few others). Leaving me behind...

Don't cry, Tom, I won't be leaving you. I'm too old to learn it all again. I just want to play with my existing toys. J

Tom, you said "Mostly it's because our scenery most certainly will not be compatible (since it's not compatible with FSX), and if the rumors that FS9 aircraft are not compatible then virtually nothing in the propliner world will work in it (except Jens' and A2A aircraft, and a few others). MS would be leaving US behind, not you. You are not alone by a long shot.
Personally, I regard it as more of the sad degradation of so much in "modern" society. Product quality is no longer valued in the rush to exploit bright shiny junk. Personal skills gets superceded by more and more gadgetry and/or phony "skills" like bungy jumping. Takes a lot training to fall off a bridge, you know.
Anyway, Tom, please don't fold up the tent in disgust. There are still a lot of us who feel quite comfortable here at "home."
In any case, many of us will still be here with you.
Cheers,
Glenn

From what I have heard about MS Flight, I will likely stick with FSX for a very long time. I get the feeling that MS Flight will not be a flight sim in the sense that we are accustomed to, but looks like eye candy, might be a game with missions to fly, and will feature parts of the world. Guess that's why we've seen nothing with a longer range than a Cessna 172 in the preview shots. I'll reserve final judgment for when the product is released.

This will be full of eye candy and quick missions. It's designed to be more like a game boy or video game, and not an airline simulation. It reflects the reality of the world these days. Studies have shown that the average attention span of an 18 to 20 year old is just 11 minutes. No more, no less. They do not want to "fly" an aircraft for even a one hour flight simulating regularly scheduled service. This is simply too much to ask for in today's world. So this "Flight Game" will be just that, designed for them, because that's where the sales are at. You enter into the game, buzz around for 10 minutes, then quickly exit and move on to something different or new. This is the same problem that the military has been having. New recruits that only have 10 minute attention spans, don't or won't or can't complete any tasks, and are always bored and looking for something new to stimulate them every few minutes. Nobody has found a solution for it yet, and MS does have to go for where the bulk of sales and profits will be, and it's NOT with middle aged men who have the patience to complete 2 and 3 hour or more flights simulating true airline service. We saw this direction coming when FSX came out. With FSX, the die was cast; no improvements to ATC, or AI....just more of these "missions" I'll stick to FS9 and be a dinosaur

You won't be the only dinosaur, Mike - I'm planning on sticking with FS9 for a long time, too. Wouldn't want to miss those Connies and Strats - I recently had some opportunities to test some demo's of 'flight and flight combat sims', but I all found them rather disappointing and unrealistic. And I'm part of the so-called 'target group' of said games...!!
No, I prefer a good 'ol boring fifteen hour Trans-Atlantic flight in a Strat anyday, over any game that offers unrealistic ground-attack mission with a gazillion missiles under your wings, defending fighters that couldn't find their own base if they stood on its runway, damage patterns that see a MiG-23 take 16 Sidewinders and still fly home, and pre-set scenario's that see you complete your mission succesfully, but getting shot down anyway because of the 'narrative' of the game... (That's Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X 2 for PS3, just in case you're wondering - so unrealistic that in one of the demo-games, I accidentally shot a 'friendly' CH-47 with an AC-130's Howitzer, only for it to emerge unscathed, and the enemy tanks around it to be obliterated)

I agree. It was hard enough to make the FS9 - FSX transition. Not having DX10, I can run the Calclassic planes perfectly, and the sceneries near perfect. But the inability to run these at all in a new sim is a deal breaker. Indeed, if the focus is to dumb it down, that settles it for sure. I don't know if I am in the median of the age bracket here at 41 but if that's dinosoar, you can add me to the Calclassic dyno-club dl
