Most of the people aren't amused about the news, but we still have to wait what it is really going to be in the end.. I still wanna try it ;D just for the fun of it, but i think you are right about people still sticking to 2004 and FSX (and that is not a bad thing)

Ditching in the ocean would be a better metaphore.

I'll be saving my hard drive space for more FS2004.

Actually am not in the least surprised, PC games have been moving towards this commercial model for some time now, at least in the strategy and wargaming genre.
It will probably make M$ a bucket of cash and last mere hours on most PC's but the downloaded content will likely be a cash cow over time.
That, or the thing tanks but I suspect that the mission aspect will be entertaining for some. As one who loves FS9 for the procedures one can recreate along with the outstanding vintage and classic aircraft and scenery that I still need to practice on and explore respectively, the probability of M$ Flight finding its way onto my H-D in the foreseeable future is somewhere between slim and none.

After going to the AVSIM Flight forum and reading all about it, I thought I would come here and post the links - and guess what, you folks beat me to it. Anyway, I think the big problem will be when the "next MS OS" (at some point) does not support running FS9 anymore. Some people are speculating that Win7 *will be* the last...

PS. The highlights (lowlights?): No SDK available and no current mechanism for freeware (unless it becomes a free item inside the MS store, which apparently requires a lot of red tape/paperwork, etc.).

Guess we'll be moving to X-plane 10 + eventually.... see you guys there.
Maybe the PC community will give them a decent wake up call, sort of like the Modern Warfare 2 fiasco.

I've read the official information and the feedback from potential users. It does not sound good to me. Mrcapitalism may be right, X-Plane is continually being improved and might end up being the next flight sim of choice.

"There will be no software development kit and hence no user created content." ...that about sums it up for me, right there.

Well, im sticking with FS2004 until I one day get a smokin hot PC and will then move to FSX....sad news, but still years of flight simming for me. Oh, and heck, I can always try XP9 and XP10.

It looks like M$ is going with two business models that I dislike as a consumer. 1) The Apple model which is - I built the device so you will have to shop at my store for upgrades/improvements and I will decide which ones to sell and how much you will pay for them. 2) The Disney model which is - the initial price is comparatively low but I'm going to bang on you continuously for more money once you are here. I may download Flight just for a look but it will in no way replace my FS9 or FSX.

I cannot image ever stepping to XP10. Did anyone actually took a good look to it ? It doesnt look to well, and a lot of restrictions.
On a side note, I was intending to release the Propliner Flyer Magazine this week, a whopping 60 pages or so yet, but since I got a mail from Microsoft, I will postpone it a couple of days to include something important as discussed on this page.

Took a quick look at the links and my first impression was.."This is stupid!" This 'game' will only appeal to someone who has no appreciation for how precise flying is or how well it is presented with many of the planes and scenery in the freeware community, especially the ones here.
My vote is my money stays in my wallet.

for all the past weeks I have been avoiding to see or even take a look at screenshots or new videos of this new simulator, why?, just because it's not on my plans to acquire a copy. I’m OK now with FS9 and maybe next year will try to upgrade to FSX ....in the meantime, I've heard lots of good comments, at least until last week, it had a good expectative on FS community, specially for the detailed models, terrain, "real water", etc, etc, etc..(things not relevant for me) then I saw some comments yesterday on the mexican forum, now here and I just said "What happened??"...so I decided to look at the images and got surprised, in fact, that's what it will be.....just a <G*A*M*E> sorry to say this but it looks like any other "fighter style" game for XBOX or PS....just chasing things around there, well it completely looses the integrity and interest about what a Flight Simulator must be. PS for those who can read spanish, this is the thread on fsmex.com: www.fsmex.com/foros/showthread.php?t=47537&page=4
