Hi, Today I am announcing the start of a new classic scenery project: Eastern Europe 1962. This scenery is one I have been wanting to do for years and will offer a gloomy counterpart to the new Central Europe 1961 scenery that is in the works (see "scenery quiz" thread in the Classic Screen Shots forum). If anybody has any photographs, or airport data of another airport in Eastern Europe that is not listed below, let me know. A list of airports that will be covered in this scenery: (Country- ICAO-City-Airport name) Estonia: EETN Tallinn Latvia: EVRS Riga-Spilve EVRA Riga-Riga Intl. (removed) Lithuania: EYVI Vilnius Hi, all. I am sorry that I have raised old topic. But I hope my information is helpful. In Soviet era ICAO codes for these airports were different. So, Tallinn Airport was code ULTT, Vilnius - UMWW, Riga-Spilve - UMRS. Riga International Airport Skulte - UMRR. But Skulte was built in 1974. Since 1960 until 1974 there was Riga Rumbula, UMRA, Soviet Air Force and civil aircraft common airbase. I have some information about all airports in ex-USSR, but not complete. If anyone interested, I am ready to assist.

I have Tallinn, Riga Spilve and Vilnius modelled. In quite a far stage actually. I was also working on a dozen other airports in Western USSR including many Ukrainian airports. But I had to go back to sketchup as I had many texture issues that I only learned to solve about a year ago.

If the airport is in FS it's usually best to use the ICAO code that's in the sim, for various reasons. But thanks for the info.

Mike, I have your 1963 East Germany Airports package and Budapest Ferihegy 1961 by Juan Martinez. Is your Eastern Europe 1962 project ongoing?

Hello Larry! There are a couple of spare sceneries on other sites that look fairly "classic" and could be easily backdated using some simple AFCAD/ADE tweaks. LRBS Bucharest-Baneasa LBWN Varna LATI Tirana-Rinas EVRS Riga-Spilve I canĀ“t remember the sites where I found them (flightsim, Avsim, simviation, avsimrus)... but I do have them installed with those tweaks, I even tweaked some "signs" on some of them and replaced them with "communist era propaganda".. just as Mike did on the East Germany scenery. take care

Like Juan, I've found the Avsimrus site very god for finding Eastern European scenery that can backdated fairly easily or left as installed.
A good example from Avsimrus is UNCC Novosibirsk. As installed it fits into the Classic era perfectly with the 1950s Stalinist terminal and other vintage looking buildings. A few Li-2s and IL-14s on the tarmac complete the look. And if the tarmac markings could be removed that would be even better. Going by the scenery it appears not much has changed at that airport since the 60s.
Tblisi in Georgia is another Eastern scenery that with a bit of renaming of some of the scenery files to remove the modern control tower, the glass terminal, railway station, construction building and the modern tarmac markings, you have a bleak looking late 50s Soviet era airport. For myself I was pleased with the result of removing those items and it gives the right atmosphere of a Soviet Classic era airport.
I've had Bucharest installed for quite a while and again nothing really had to be done as it also looks right for Classic era.
By looking carefully through Avsimrus there are sure to be others that can be modified.

Hi Jacklyonr This is the list of .bgl files for Tbilisi that I renamed to remove the modern traces from the airport:
A_TAV_Insides ATCTower Bld_NOIDep CentralBld ConstSite Gate101 Gate102 Gate103 GR_MARKS TAV_Geometry TAVOffice TrainStation
I usually just change .BGL to .BGx as advised by Tom many years ago. Rename those files and you will get a pretty good representation of the airport as to how it would have looked back in the late 50s or early 60s. I have left the runway marker board in there for the present but may still remove them to fully complete the backdating.
Hope you find it as pleasing as I did.

Something I should also mention. In the airport directory the airport is listed a UGGG Lochini.
Also on the far side of the airport is a red and white radar dome which I have left that in for now as I'm unsure as to whether the airport would have had such a structure in 1960. Perhaps someone with knowledge of Soviet era airports could confirm this. It will be easy to remove if need be.
Plus there is a nearby airport Z11J Tbilisi Manneuli whose runway is floating above the terrain. Suspect this is an elevation problem caused by the main Tbilisi scenery. Haven't bothered about it as I have no intention of using that runway. But does anyone know what would have to be done to rectify it?
