Your charts are always a huge help John I might also consider doing a southeast US package after the northeast is finished

let the multitudes know what support may be provided. I would very kindly ask that everyone help me gather resources for the NE and SE USA packages (airports are listed on the first post). These are massive projects (especially the southeast) and gathering all the resources isn't something I have a lot of time for. Thanks much guys, your support helps me more than you know

Some advice on research: do google, bing and yahoo for pictures. Check delcampe.net and other sources for old photographs and postcards. Use old plane types and airlines as keywords as well as the (old) names of the airports. Also check old films, movies, news for material (eg. "pathé" works great for many European airports). Just some advice. For the CE61 project I even went to the Swiss national library. I had hardly found any pics for LSGG before for example. At the library I found even blueprints of the terminal. Not to mention that I find it fascinating to learn about the history of old airports and the ideas and design behind.

Nice tips brn1976....
You're right....sometimes old pictures and postcards from the terminal area is just NOT ENOUGH.....in some cases you really have to dive on history to get more info... ;D
PST!....old films are great...at least on my TX62 scenery project; vintage videos on youtube from General aviation, MATS, USAF, NAVY and even NASA were a great source to help me on the developmnent of the GA airports and most military bases.......(issue we're still dealing with..)
Good luck with your projects Chris!

Hi everyone, Sorry for the lack of updates! I took a planned and then unplanned vacation. On to the update however: I originally planned to only do the actual airport at DCA. However, I've been looking around the DC area that is simulated in FS9, and have come to the conclusion that it is one of the most unrealistic, ugly, and under-detailed (for lack of a better word) approach that I have ever done because there are coastlines off place, entire islands and highways and major buildings missing, and just the overall look. So I have taken it upon myself to improve the DC area, using much work with SBuilder (which I recently seem to have mastered ) to add the correct coastlines, parking lots, highways, etc. And will utilize Sketchup once more to create some more realistic buildings or add missing ones. So quite basically, DCA is now an entire airport and city update. This, however, will push the release date back some months at best. However it will be finished, and hopefully the finished product will look better than the default. Any and all provided resources will be utilized and much appreciated. Thanks much for sticking through with this patiently guys, I haven't had as much time to work on my sceneries lately as I would've liked. Thanks,

Chris - Well, Newark was great news enough, but now you're going to do DCA and probably PHL sometime after that? And others besides? How great can this hobby get?!?!
I had actually started EWR myself, got the size & shape of the terminal down about the way I wanted it (Sketchup), but while I was piddling with it you were working earnestly toward actually getting it finished, and finished beautifully at that. I admire your diligence.
Too bad, there's a guy who has already done DCA (FLL and others too), but is apparently unwilling to share his work with the community. His right, of course. I found a screenshot somewhere by accident.
When you get to PHL, I can provide some photos as it was my home base in the 60s. Not that I took pictures of the buildings themselves, but you can tell a lot from the background. Don't expect that the slides are in good condition, but for your purpose I don't think it will matter. Please let me know a short time before you start so I have time to round the slides up and get them scanned. Also scanned some DCA postcards from ebay sale if of any help.
Very much hope you'll include the "new" United pier which was added sometime in the 1959 - 1961 timeframe as best I can tell.
Thanks so much for your great contributions, Chris!

Anyone here knows that anything that I have ever done I have given out very happily. Yes, I have done DCA and FLL and a few others of which some members here have these scenery's, that is the ones who I know personally. In the past I have given out my works to those who fly in to this forum just to get a repaint or whatever I have done and have caused me more grief than I care to deal with nor ever have gotten a thank you, so I just stopped giving things out to these types of simmers. Too many in this hobby feel that they are entitled to everything just because, but I am not or ever will be obligated to give anything that I do, especially with statements like this. Being polite goes a long ways with me. Have a good day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Frank

Frank, Okay, as soon as I saw your name, the details came back to me. Without giving this discussion any more bandwidth than it's worth, I'd like to explain myself and others who happened into this. My comment was not that "off the wall."
It was about two years ago, maybe three, that I saw the screenshots on your tripletails website, and I'll admit I drooled at your beautiful work. I tried to find a download site for your DCA scenery, and after giving up in frustration I asked you via e-mail, or possibly some forum, where I might be able to get it. You replied that you hadn't made a decision as to whether you wanted to make it openly available or not. So I sent back word that I'd appreciate you letting me know if you decided in favor of it, or failing that, offered to pay you for it.
Since I never heard any more about it, I think the assumption that you didn't want to share it was reasonable. True, the assumption was evidently incorrect, but I didn't know you had been sharing it privately; you never gave any indication of that.
Hope you took note that I said it was "your right, of course", not to share it -- I didn't suggest in any way that you're obligated to share anything you do if you don't want to, and I think that was pretty plain.
Just my side of it. Sorry for the dark shadow on this otherwise bright & cheery thread.

Chris I am working up a basic AFCAD for KBNA circa 1959-60. Is that the time period you are shooting for in the SE pack?
