Since my recent format and reinstall of Windows XP it seems the screen for FS9 looks stretched, the aircraft all appear longer than normal. I've played around with the settings both in FS and windows but I can't seem to get it right. I have an Nvidia GeForce 8500 GT graphics card and I even tried installing the latest drivers. I have my screen set at 1024x768, if I set it lager the graphics go terrible and if I set it so the icons are very small it still doesn't cure it. I've tried the settings for the graphics card but I still have the problem, it looked great before I had the virus and had to format. I was wondering if I'm missing something obvious?

Hi Col, I'm not teaching you how to suck eggs I hope ! In Fs9 you can set your screen size under display in options and perhaps that should be changed to 1200 x 600 but I'm not sure as on this computer I dont have access to FS9. The text size is set outside FS9 I think in the control panel box and that then is seen in FS9.
Gawd, so vague as to be practically useless!
Andy.

Are you using a widescreen monitor? If so, you need to find out what the intrinsic resolution of your LCD monitor is and set FS (and Windows) to run at that. If the words are just too small for you (in Windows) you can set the resolution lower for Windows (set this in Windows), but high for full screen FS use (set this in FS).
For my 22" widescreen monitor I use 1280 x 720 for Window, and 1980 x 1080 for full screen FS.
If you do not have such resolutions, you probably need to update your video driver. I'm using the NVidia 175.19 driver with good results.
Hope this helps,

Hi Andy,
No problem, I tried as you suggested, I kind of done some of it any way but I went through it again, still no joy.
Tom,
I did download the latest drivers but that didn't do anything, if this is a clue, I managed to get the text on the desktop a bit bigger but in FS if you press shift and Z the info it shows is very small, it usually is a bit bigger. I've tried various screen resolutions but they don't seem to be any different to each other.

Hi,
Try loading the default flight (Cessna at SeaTac).
If that didn't work, quit FS, back up your fs9.cfg file by adding .bak to the end of the file name, and restart FS. If this helps, you needed a new display section.
Hope this helps,

Thanks Tom,
I just clicked on something in the Nvidia settings and it went perfect, I went back to the desktop to look there then back in the sim, bah! it was gone again. I'll now try what you suggest.

I'm having no luck, I even reloaded the graphics drivers I got with the PC. It is funny, all the text around the screen if in windowed mode is correct and even in Traffic Tools, but the aircraft seem long and thin plus the shift + Z function the text is very small.
I might re-install FS again and see if that works, I have loaded up a few ai now as well I presume they will still be there if I re-install?

Hi,
Yes, the AI aircraft folders will still be there. Make sure you delete (or back up) any files present in the main FS2004 folder, as well as in the same folder that has the fs9.cfg file in it (including that file), so FS is forced to install new versions of all of them.
Hope this helps,

Well I set my desktop to 1440x900, the icons are really small but very clear, so I fired up FS to see how it looked. This is weired, the text round the screen in windowed mode is small and also in Traffic Explorer, but now the text when I press shif+z is bigger, the aircraft look good too. So I did a test flight and all went well, I'll keep it like this for now, I didn't fancy re-installing again.
I would like to thank you all for having a go at helping me out by the way, you guys are the best.
