Great story. Ah, turf wars. Tom if only knew...... MATS (MAC), TAC, & SAC, although they are/were all part if the Air Force, if say you were in SAC, and the person next to you was in TAC, he might as well been in the Navy, because that is how you were treated. I was fortunate that FE Warren always was a SAC base, but My Brother's base went from a TAC base, to SAC Base, and then NORAD. It always sucked if you were assigned to an unit that was a Tennant on a base, because your base housing was not as good, CE did not respond as fast, and it was kind of uncomfortable in the Airman or NCO clubs. Even in our Family it is true. My Brother & I were in SAC, 1 Sister was in MAC, and 1 Sister was in TAC. Although We all admire & respect each other's service, at Family gatherings there is always a bit ribbing among us. I get a little extra from all the rest, because they never let me forget that I stationed at a AFB with no runways.

Just tell'em that choppers don't need no stinkin' runway. ;D. I know what you mean about the different branches. On one flight from Tokyo back to Travis, I had about 40 SAC B-52 crew members that had been training at Yokota Air Base. They were all wearing sidearms and we would not allow them on the plane since MATS was a certified air carrier and no weapons were allowed on board. After about an hours delay, SAC Hq finally told them to stow the sidearms in a safe container and put them in the Baggage Compartment.
