I know from experience that a bunch of our group have been busy trying to master the checkerboard approach into Kai Tak. Today is final exam day. I hope you do well. Jesse www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PCOcyt7BPI

I've made it many times in a low and slow moving C-54, on our monthly run from Haneda to Dhahran; but I have never experienced it in a high speed jet. I'll bet it would be a thrill.
The checker board was not too bad as long as you were not socked in. The C-54 flew slow enough that it was easy to make any necessary corrections.

From a friend who flew 747-400 for LH I know only a select few crews were checked out for that one. And Klaus always said it was the most hair raising and rewarding approach of any he knew.
I got to fly in there a couple of times...in the back and I don't think the big Boeing could have braked any harder than it did on both occasions making the turn-off at a very rapid clip.
As much as I love flying...I think that one was best enjoyed when you could actually see what is happening.
It was funny though to look up at the clothes lines at peoples balconies ;D ;D
