RAF Lyneham in Wiltshire. Home to Comet C.2 and C.4s, Britannias and Hastings. The RAF 'flew the flag' to all corners of the world from Lyneham. Above, a Comet C.2 departs as a Britannia readies for the daily trip to RAF Changi, Singapore. Below, Changi is alive with a varied military presence. A newly arrived, and brand new Argosy already looks dated compared to the Vulcan on tour. Lyneham scenery (modern) is available with the filename lyneham2.zip Fantastic period RAF Changi is included in raf_singapore.zip The Comet C.4 is included in the Calclassic traffic files. The C.2 is the flyable version by Jens and called comet_v20.zip The Britannia is included with the Calclassic traffic, but I have put on a paint (xm496.zip) from the flyable version. This needed a couple of files renaming to fit the AI model. The Argosy is a great new model called jyai_argosies_fs9_1.zip -- Don't miss the retro RAF Benson scenery bc_benson_70.zip available at avsim The Hastings is from 'Sheps Shed' www.shepsshed.com/bits.htmFinally I created the traffic files, available for anyone that might want them. I've done quite a bit of research from various sources and many flights are historic. All are accurate or typical. Included are 216Sqn Comet C.2 & C.4s trips to the United States and Canada, to Nassau (where the Prime Minister Harold Macmillan met with Kennedy) and to all points of the Commonwealth. In 1962 the Britannia was on strength with the RAF with 99 and 511 Sqns, and flew daily to Changi, Singapore via North Africa, Aden and the Indian Ocean. Other trips include a flight to Moscow, via Kastrup in Copenhagen to pick up a Russian navigator and radio operator. The Hastings was still the short and medium haul workhorse of the Command, particularly in the Near and Far East. 24, 48 & 70 Sqns were based at Lyneham, Changi and Cyprus. The Argosy was based at RAF Benson in 114Sqn and the Operatonal Conversion Unit. 105Sqn was in the process of deploying to Aden. I've been meaning to create an RAF presence for a long time - hope you like it! Dave

Hi Dave, at least someone picked up the idea of creating ai traffic and scenery for the RAF Transport Command. Can't wait to install it!
Cheers Bernie

Looks great, Dave. I know this fills a big void in many people's classic FS installation.
Thanks,

Interesting traffic conception. Let us know how you will make it available (PM, MediaFire).

All of the scenery and 'planes are found on Flightsim or avsim using the file names shown-just ignore the parts of the readme that put in other AI traffic. I will put some links up very shortly for the traffic files. It's the first thing I've made for public consumption so I'm not sure of the best way. Initially I'll link to the files in my dropbox. That way people can try them out and let me know if anything needs fixing or improving. I'd like to ultimately 'release' them with a few AFCADS to fill in the gaps.

Right, that was a bit of a job. Dropbox only allows single files to be shared, and all my traffic files are separate for each squadron. So I've made a mini 'package' using a zip file. I am embarrassed to share it with such distinguished company! Anyway, here they are - RAF 1962 <-- Removed pending updated release And, because everyone likes pictures: Aden International, AKA RAF Khormaksar A BEA Viscount climbs out of Malta en route to Rome whilst two Hastings look on Evening descends on RAF El Adem and by way of a teaser RAF Coltishall - watch this space

Why to be embarrassed? Thanks for sharing what you did!

I've just updated the link to include a 9Sqn Vulcans out of Coningsby and 74Sqn Lightnings out of Coltishall. I've also updated the included Afcads to improve (read fix!) them. Please let me know of any comments or suggestions to improve - this is all new to me! I've really enjoyed watching the traffic during the last few days of testing, not least because of the brilliant AI models. John Young's Vulcan and Lightning need a special mention - they are beautiful! Lastly I know that miltary AI is not everyones cup of tea. These traffic files (and the fact that the repaints aren't all individual serial numbers, for example) would not be acceptable to military AI aficionados. My focus with these traffic files is to fill out the classic world. I'd love my traffic to sit on your computer, almost forgotten, until one day quite unexpectedly you land at Goose and find three Vulcans! The little thrill of the unusual. So, some pictures for the civilian flyers first: RAF Britannia lifts out of Le Bourget on a VIP tour of Europe. Next stop Lisbon. A rainy Honolulu sees a visit from an RAF Comet, probably en route to Christmas Island With this in mind, if you know that the RAF visited somewhere in our classic world in the years 1957, 59 and 62 please let me know. I will adapt the traffic files to reflect real world flights into the airports we use. And a few more pictures with just military metal Comet at Vandenburg AFB A 9Sqn Vulcan thunders into the blue sky over Coningsby And lastly, some atmospheric shots Argosies of 105Sqn make the trip to their new home of Aden. Here they land for a nightstop in the gloom of El Adem I know it's got jets, and jets are for kids, but... wow!

i think will be great if you can see with Tom to add your traffic pack (with the planes and repaints) to the cc traffic series RAF 1962 and do an install as the other cc ai series
will be a great add on for our traffic ai
cheers

Hi, My main traffic packs are only for civil airliners. Mike and I also did a MATS traffic (that uses a lot of the airliner models), but have no plans to create a purely military AI package. That's left for you folks to do, and this is a great start.

Hello again, As I continue to toy with the flightplans I have found a bit of a howler in my work. At some point during making the plans I substituted Christmas Island, or Kiritamati in the Pacific Ocean (PLCH) with Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean! (YPXM). It was an easy fix but made my AFCAD to make parking at YPXM redundant. So please delete the YPXM file from the Scenery folder if you have the earlier version. I had made that AFCAD in a rush after realising the traffic had nowhere to park (and being puzzled as to why I hadn't checked sooner). Of course, I had checked right at the start and found Christmas Island PLCH was included in the Calclassic Pacific 1962 package! Anyway, the link is updated. What I then realised was that my 1957 traffic files in particular were likely to swamp the AFCAD included in the Pacific 1962 package as, in 1957, Christmas Island was home to Operation Grapple, the British Nuclear Weapons tests. I am therefore in the process of making a replacement scenery for Christmas Island. It is my first attempt at making scenery. I'm really enjoying it, and the Calclassic library (and one for RAF vehicles) are invaluable. Here are couple of screens of the work in progress.

Hi,
Some years ago Nikko Yaginuma and I started "RAF Transport Command", but it was never finished. I cannot remember all the details, but it is still on my classic FS9 installation. I've never looked at it since we stopped. If anyone is interested drop me a PM and I shall send it. Keep in mind that I can not supply any support.
Cheers,
Harry

Hi Dave, Flight Global archive is the best source for that. They may get it wrong sometimes on civvy stuff, but they were massive cheerleaders for the Imperial Airpower Club back in the day. I think the RAF have started digitising copies of their in-house magazine 'Air Clues'. Air Clues was concerned with Flight safety, news of movements and deployments of RAF (and Commonwealth) Squadrons and aircraft, and blatant Crab PR, before marketing was even a weapon in the Armed Forces. I dimly remember reading old copies, with in depth contemporary articles on the French Air Force in Vietnam, and RAF Hunters in Thailand etc. A great source of information. The years you're looking at were also independence years for some Commonwealth countries, and invariably, there'd be an RAF presence for VIP transport, or trooping flights. As regards airfields and traffic, are these all included in the download? If not are sources listed? Operating off a GSM connection att the moment, so downloads are a no-no Best regards solotk
