Hi, here some other screenshots about I did over the last time: One of the two security gates with flashing green and red lights. A view from the harbour to the Navy pier with a nuclear sub alongside. I reworked the industrial area and added the Cape standard hangar type. @dl, I hope they will preserve the Hangar "S" too. Cheers Bernie

Hi, here something more to increase your appetite, DL. Lol. President Kennedy at the Cape infront of Hangar S. The international press waits for the upcoming takeoff of Friendship 7 at the Mission Control Center. Cheers Bernie

Most excellent. The "S" on the hangar looks a bit like its untextured - maybe it's just my monitor. Appears black in the current photos, but red in the Mercury period photos ... albeit faded red ... Looking sweet. dl

Thank you for this picture, this must be celebration after John Glenn's succesful space flight, I think.
I painted the "S" letter indeed black, because this and all the other hangars looks also black. Another example is the sloped cover ontop the sliding doors. Here it is painted white, sometimes later it changed to copper tone brown. The walls here light grey, a few years later and on modern pictures sand tone.
Still I didn't find the original text written on the right half of the front wall.

Yes Bernie, you're correct - that was after Glenn's flight. Indeed, some paints changed over the years, and whatever period you choose, and how you paint, is just what it'll be. I've only ever seen pics of the sloped cover on "S" in a light sand/white colour - I couldn't do the Hangar S tour the last time I was at the Cape, so I can't say what it looks like in the last couple of years. I only posted the pic to help, not to change your mind - just a view of what it looked like in '62. Here's a shot of "N" - it has the coppery colour you mentioned, but the lettering, though faded, looks like it used to be the same red that was in the "S" shot in 1962 I posted earlier. Again, great work. dl

Hi dl, I always welcome helpful suggestions and critics, to be as close to the original as possible. Belive me, I would give my last blanket for the grand tour around Cape Canaveral. Here you can find, just in case you didn't know, a little movie through the industrial area to Hangar "S" at the "Save Hangar S" webside: Save Hangar SAnd remember that all pictures, prior in this thread, are pre views or first working samples. But I think it's now time to come to an end. If you want, just pm me your email adress for a first beta test, coming up the next days if can manage between my real life job. Since I make great use of the CalClassic FSX libraries it's most important to have them proper installed before installing my stuff. If Tom's "FSX Hawaii 59" scenery is running well then it will be no big deal to enjoy (hopefully) my Cape Canaveral 62/64. Cheers Bernie

Hi Bernie,
Yes, I've combed that site a great deal, most especially since you've launched this project. I've pm'ed you - again, thanks for the project, and (in advance) for what I'm sure will be a lovely beta. I've got all the FSX libraries installed, so life is good. The Hickam Field part of the FSX Hawaii 59 install is where my FPS is a bit low, the airport terminal area itself runs fine. So we'll see how it goes - am hopeful.
Yes, if you ever get to go to the Cape, it's marvelous. Now that's even factoring in that all I had time for was the "sterile" bus tour with the masses, nothing intimate, wandering around the closed off launch sites, Hangar S, etc. I was in Orlando on a business conference, and only had an afternoon of free time to visit - and you could easily spend a whole day - and that's just the "touristy" area. Saw the VAB, the crawler, and from a distance, LC-39. If I go back, I'll look to do as many of the private tour options as possible. Definitely, Hangar S, if preserved.
Have a super day!
Daniel

Stumbled across this little interesting tidbit ... neat that these have been preserved! dl Hi, 'Free world's first ..' We have to admit it, the Soviets were first. Kind of reminds me of the term 'largst xxx in the Southern Hemisphere' that you frequently find in Australia. Best regards, Volker

The key words are "Free World's". As opposed to the Soviet Union's. Agreed, though, that it does come across as a bit contrived in our post Cold-War perspective. So while technically correct, I guess during the heady Cold War days, a bit of hyperbole was to be expected.
What drew me to the picture wasn't that sign (not sure if its original - it looks in a bit too good a shape for an original, but I could be wrong) - what I like are the parking stall plates - those are cool!

OK - how about some screenshots, already! Bernie was so kind to send me a beta - needless, to say, I'm so high with excitement - I could hunt duck with a rake. Note, for a bit of historical realism, I'm flying Mermaz's Bell 47 ported over for FSX. Alas, in DX10, the "bubble" is a bit too opaque, and so I've taken all shots from the outside. If anyone running DX10 can lighten those a bit, I'd be very endebted. Anyway, let the film roll ... Here's the pads .... Hangar S ... managed to capture a pic of photographer taking a pic (see the flash effect? - how cool is that!) Mission Control ... sorry, couldn't get the photographer's flash timed to my screenshot. ... and finally, the dock. Check out the Nautilus ... even bouys! Bernie has mad skills, I tell you! Bernie - thanks again - this has been a treat too good for words. The screens don't do it justice - but they're the least I can do to show my appreciation. cheers, Daniel

A few more ... combining the other lovely beta model I've been blessed to be a part of ... the wonderful Mr. Rob Richardson's F5D Skylancer ... can't think of a better (if albeit partially fictional) setting. A certain Cdr Shepard didn't much fancy the Skylancer ... it's a whole other story in my sim! Enjoy! DL
