Been fortunate enough to meet several of them over the years. Great bunch of men. I'm especially proud that the Commemorative Air Force has a flying tribute to those men and their sacrifices during WWII. The aircraft is the only P-51B/C currently flying that is painted in their markings and it's a beauty even though it is still undergoing restoration from an accident several years ago that sadly took the life of a great pilot.

I remember seeing a movie about them a while ago, I would like to see it again to refresh my memory.

Their wartime leader, Lt. Col. Benjamin O. Davis, Jr. was our Director of Operations at Headquarters Fifth Air Force in Tokyo during the early 60s. At that time, he was Lt. General Benjamin O. Davis, Jr. I don't believe I have ever served under a more qualified Officer and Gentleman.

Like it is memorated in the end of the You Tube film, it is told that these guys never lost a bomber on any of their escorts. Quite impressive... In July 2007 during the Flying Legends at Duxford, England, I was fortunate to be able to meet a bunch of these great airmen as a photographer for our DDA-Magazine. I remember they were like a 'Band of Brothers', making fun of each other, charming the English ladies (!) and having great spirits !! Below a pic I made during that photo call. Great guys....
