Have uploaded vintage charts and some pics for Sarasota, Fort lauderdale and West Palm Beach to my Flickr page. They may be of some help for anyone doing Classic Florida scenery. Link to the page: www.flickr.com/photos/12530375@N08/John

I used to fly into FLL when it looked like some of those pictures. Now it's a huge monster of a mess. What a big difference.

John,
They are very helpful. Thanks!
I'm almost back to working on scenery. For anyone wondering, I'm still working on Miami, the project that never ends. I've been extremely busy this past few months since transitioning from AirTran to Southwest. But we've sold the house in Georgia, and we're on the way to our new home in Fort Collins, CO (I'm actually writing this from a hotel in Hutchinson, KS after a long day of driving). Once we're in the house on Saturday, one of the first priorities is to get my new FS rig set up. Once that's done, it's back to work on scenery.
I've made a lot of progress on Miami, and have starts on Palm Beach and Sarasota. Maybe a few more months and I'll have something to release. Thanks for everyone's patience!
Al

All, Just a word on my version of South Florida as well. I sent by basic scenery to Juan for some testing and should get some word on the thing soon. I haven't worked on it for a while - mostly due to work. I made many custom buildings, although I think I went overboard on the LOD's with MCX. Some of downtown you have to be on top of the thing to see it come up. Same with the dock area. I did some mods of the CC-ship models to have some AI, but for some reason I get an error message after a while when the ship finally gets to the "runway" to "take-off". If I remember it has something to do with virtual memory. I might just stay with static stuff for the docks. Most of the work was around the KMIA version done by Juan a while back which was available here on the forum if I remember correctly. I used it as well as topographic maps and SBuilder to make land class and more accurate shorelines for the era. As a result I'm not sure if it will work with FSX, P3D, or FSX-SE. I was also going to do the north side in two versions: one with the terminals and hangars by Kenny found in his scenery and the other, later version, with the "Taj Majal" replacing the 36th Street terminal. Right now we'll just see which is easier and I might just stay with a '62 version. So far I've done most of the downtown area and Miami Beach to include, but not limited to, The Fontainbleau Hotel, Miami Beach City Hall, Sea Aquarium, Dodge Islands and the new landfill, US Coast Guard Station Miami Beach, Mercy Hospital, Algeirs Hotel, Roney Plaza Hotel, Revere Hotel (currently the site of the Versaci Mansion Bed and Breakfast), Dade County Courhouse, Florida Coastal Railroad station at Flagler Street, the Flager Limited train (a la Las Vegas scenery), McCarthur Causeway, Rickenbacker Causeway (default bridge sections done by VTP), Venetian Causeway, Orange Bowl (default re-located in proper location), Olympia Theater, Bayfront Library, Bayfront Auditorium, Miami Herald Building, Jordan Marsh, DuPont Plaza Hotel, Hotel Biscayne (currently the Holiday Inn on US1 and the only original hotel on Biscayne Blvd left standing), McAllister Hotel (actually a revamped version of the Belvedere Hotel from Philly that I found on 3D Warehouse), Miami City Hall at Dinner Key, major golf courses as identified in the topo maps, major roads and railroads as best I could figure, the First National Bank building in downtown across from the DuPont, South Beach, etc, etc. The list just goes on and on and I'm no where near finished. So far it's been, what, 3 - 4 years? I also have abandoned versions of Masters Field and Amelia Earhart Field as well as a Naval Air Station / GA version of Opa Locka. I figured since it's 1962 it would be during the period of re-activation for the missile crisis. Which also includes a rudimentary version of Homestead with a wing of B-52's and F-100's as well as Florida Air Guard 106's that were down there and F-104's up at Opa Locka. There is also a rudimentary version of Hollywood-Perry, Broward International Airport (now KFLL), and the abandoned Davie NOLF just west of KFLL. I also have a start on the dock area of Fort Lauderdale as well as the tank farm up there near the airport. I was also working on a version of the candy-cane power plant near the airport that was imploded not too long ago. To make matters worse (or better, depending how you look at it) I ended up starting work on a simple seaplane base on Bimini and modified the X44 in Miami to be a stand-in for Watson Island. I have Tom's water-only Goose going back and forth in random flight schedules to give you the planes taking off and landing down the cruise canal. I then decided the Bahamas needed some work and started work on a generic, retro-version of Windsor Field (aka - MYNN) serving Nassau. Most of the library objects are in the massive zip file. Others - like the KFLL and MYNN terminals - are from the Africa '62 package since they had the generic tower-terminal layout. In short, it's been a long time coming and it's going to be a while longer. With work and family I have a very short amount of time, so when I come back to the sim it's almost like going back to school again. Heck, I flew the HJG DC-9-31 of Caribair the other day just for kicks since I was doing the paints. It's been so long that it took me about half an hour just reading through the release notes to figure out I needed to move those pesky white knob things on the pedestal just to have air for engine start! Then I ended up losing power because I forgot you had to turn on the generators. Anyway, it's been a while since I've worked on anything so I started to send people pieces of what I have to see if we can get something done before the end of the year! Hopefully some of the non-airport eye-candy will work well with various forms of the sim, but for now it's just an FS9 version. I guess it's like XP over Vista or 7 - if it works for you, why change? Anyway, I hope this can come along in short time but no promises. All in due time. Regards, Jorge

Since all of you are expert in old airports, do any of you have any idea what were the gates at TJSJ San Juan international airport for Caribair's DC-9s and Convair planes, please?
Thanks,
Aharon

Al and Jorge, as a Miami native I am thrilled to here the progress of both of your projects. While I own both versions of FS I'm a 9 guy when it comes to my classic world. Jorge, I can't wait to fly over downtown miami in the classic era.
