This is probably something in my setup, since I don't recall anyone else reporting it. It looks like a rogue carpark from somewhere. I quite like the Picasso-style tower - it's a very French touch ;D Has anyone else seen this, or can you offer any clues? TIA MikeW

I get that too sometimes - I forgot what causes it though...

My only contribution is "me too", only been there two or three times and seen it each time. I thought it was "just me". If it was a river overpass I would blame it on me making the riverbeds less deep in terrain.cfg, but it's a road. Ah well, at least we aren't alone.

Unless someone comes up with a solution, the only one I have is to move them using a program like Instant Scenery down to the tarmac level. Save the original file in case it fixes itself...

Hi Tom, John - I think I have cracked it! Pilot error, of course. When I set up a second install of FS9, for Classic flying, I also created a different config named FS9.1_Classic.cfg. Then I created desktop shortcuts for FS9.1_VFR and FS9.1_Classic. However I did not add a switch to the Classic one, to force it to use the new cfg, so it was still using FS9.CFG from the VFR install. The VFR cfg has TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=21, because I use the VFR Terrain for England and Wales. So having found the switch info here: www.cat-tamer.com/flightsim/multiple_cfgs.htmlI fixed the shortcut and set TMVL in the Classic cfg to 19, and now everything looks fine. ;D Thanks to all who helped. MikeW EDIT: By way of a bonus, the search for the switch info also threw up this link: forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=239658&pid=1522549&st=0entry1522549which I think will interest folk who map their controls through FSUIPC and want different arrangements for jets and props, for instance. Cheers MJW EDIT2: Added a pic.

Yep, that fixed it for me too. But if I use areas of detailed mesh at 19, I often get an FS crash. So I will have to remember to switch it back when using those sceneries...
Thanks

Yes, I am a bit concerned about that side effect, but I haven't had time to check it out yet. In the Classic install I am using an Iceland Mesh, a Sandmann/de Ferranti one for the Alps, and a Norway mesh from FS Nordic. All of those recommend TMVL=21.
I have seen distortion in meshes when the TMVL was 'wrong' but I don't recall any actual crashes, just some odd spikes and holes, and rounded ridgelines instead of sharp ones.
In the VFR install, I have the payware VFR Terrain, and Christian Stock's 20m mesh for NZ - they are so good it spoils you for anything less... EDIT: Since I posted this, I have flown Ciampino - Bergen - Reykjavik without seeing any mesh problems in the areas I was concerned about. Before that I tested Orly with TMVL=20, but without success. ATB Mike
