I don't think there is an "Airline Pilot's Hall of Fame" but if there were certainly Sullenberger would be its newest member. I can think of two more off the top of my head who would also qualify - Captain Al Haynes (and the rest of his flight deck crew too) -- DC10 crash at Sioux City and Captain Richard Ogg -- ditching of the Sovereign of the Skies at Ocean Station November. Poor guy. He will probably have to endure appearing on Larry King, Letterman, Leno, "The View" and even "Dr. Phil" now. Hi I am not a person that believes in a necessity of having things just right but that said, why dd you start a fresh thread for this, when there is already a pre-existing thread on pretty much this subject, ( not being aggressive just curious ),. On your substantive point, it appears that Sullenberger did a superb job but it is early days yet in this matter. Those flying examples you gave happened quite some time ago and all the angles about those incidents have been explored, let us see a full report about the ditching incident and then it might well be reasonable to suggest Sullenberger is up with the greats. And I have to support him (for now) because he is an ex-PSA pilot. They have been interviewing a friend on our local news stations, and he describes Sully as a very humble guy that has the right stuff. But we'll wait for the final results of the investigation, of course.

Oh, I don't know. I just felt the need. Which thread was that anyway? I obviously missed it. Whatever. Capt. Haynes came to the center one afternoon and plugged in with me while I worked the Altamont departure sector. I asked him if he had any severe injuries in that DC10 crash and he answered very modestly that he had just bumped his head -- as if to say there wasn't anything inside it worth hurting. He was pure class. I agree with you on the other point-- As of this time we don't know for sure that birds were ingested into the engines - and they haven't found the engines yet either as of this writing. But my GUT feeling is that the incident will prove to be true as reported. Besides he is almost a neighbor of mine. To take from Sarah Palin's blurb -- I can see his house from here. The following is a link to the relevant thread calclassic.proboards55.com/index.cgi?board=chat&action=display&thread=757To take from Sarah Palin's blurb -- I can see his house from here. Would that be the same Sarah Palin, you could not seem to decide whether bombing an abortion clinic and murdering an off duty police man in the process would or would not constitute terrorism. www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2005-07-17-rudolph-monday-sentencing_x.htmBest and Warm Regards Adrian Wainer

Jesse I well I presume you would mean the "best" amongst equals, if you are talking about Airforce pilots as compared to Naval Aviators. www.sanjuanislander.com/records/obits/tuck-smith.shtmlavailable in the Avsim library www.avsim.com/Best and Warm Regards Adrian Wainer

Some Pilot heroes didn't make it because they just did not have enough to work with. The dc-9 that went down in cerritos Ca. 1986. He did everything that he could. www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,144979,00.html?iid=chix-sphere
