Hi For those of you who fly in FSX and P3D I have published a number of classic AI ships on www.avsim.com, www.flightsim.com, and www.simviation.com - search for Global AI Ship Traffic. Around 40 ships which are still active are put on AI routes in the package, but another 25 are available in the package, but you need to create routes the yourself - at least for the moment - a complete Classic AI Ship Traffic might be released later if there is sufficient interest. The ships are part of a freeware package with more than 600 ships and a global AI ship traffic. The package contains civil and navy versions of the Liberty ships, Victory Class ships, T2-Tankers, and many other classic ships from the 40'ties, 50'ties, and 60'ties. Below a few screenshots:

Hi kl791, that's right that what I was always looking for! Thanks a million! I converted some CalClassic ships, to get rid of the modern cruise ships in FSX standard traffic. Your number of details look terrific! I hope that this will not be an impact on the frame rate when they will gather in a harbour like New York. Will check this today. Cheers Bernie PS: The pictures reminds me of my second hobby, sub sim simulator SILENT HUNTER IV/V! But there I saw them only in the periscope!

Henrik, the manual mentions that there are more than 50-60 ships that would fit in the 50s-60s timeframe, but not which ones they are. Do you have a list/spreadsheet with that stuff in? To be honest, with that info, I would think there's enough to start putting a rudimentary system of classic ship traffic together now and I'm eager to have a go!
Cheers,
Andy

Hi there,
wouldn't it be nice to have these ships in FS9 - can these ships be converted? It is such a pity that suitable AI ships for FS9 are so rare.
Cheers

Cheers Kalle Hi, I think this can't be done, because FS9 don't support ai ship traffic. CalClassic ships ar static only, not moving around in the sim world. Cheers Bernie

Great with the feedback I can provide a list of the ships which are relevant for the period(s) but it wont be until this weekend - I write periods as I might consider a 70'ies pack as this was when I was a kid going to the harbour on my bicycle dreaming about far away places... FS9 does support AI traffic but only in a limited area based on an afcad. I am not specialist in that and will not venture into such a project, but maybe somebody else wants to do that. It has been done e.g. for Hong Kong in the past. The ships however are mostly not compiled for FS9 - one might be - the SS Martha / SS Aslaug on the first screenshot. It is the only one of my models which comes with an alternative set of BMP textures, where the rest only have DDS. It is not a big deal to recompile models, but I need some one to check that it actually works in FS9 either as static or AI as I do not have FS9.

All feedback from the packages I have released so far points to no impact on FPS; ships are done with only 2 drawcalls and optimised for performance. If you go very close you will notice that round is not really round, but as the ships are done for AI this doesn't really matter.

Henrik, thanks; quite happy to wait for the list. Would I be correct in assuming that AIBTC v.02 is still the preferred tool for building and compiling routes?

Yes, the scenery pack of the SH-3 Gold Edition is amazing. I couldn't manage to port that to SH-4.

Hi Henrik, if you want to create screenshots from your ships, MDLConverterX can be a great help for this. I started yesterday with it, just to see "who is who". But it will take a long time for the 600 oft it. Cheers Bernie

Hi there,
once again - great ships. I am continuing with FS9 and I am looking for more variety of ships from the CalClassic era (50-60ies). I have managed to run AI ships mostly in the vicinity of harbors and coastlines with historically stronger ship traffic (English Channel, Antwerp, Kiel but also Asian and African coasts. FS9 makes that possible by treating ships like aircraft taxiing at airports. SO airports have to be created at sea level without anything except parking, taxiways and runways. The taxiways can be many miles long and with some experimenting you can see ships crusing along the taxiways or parking. These AI ships need special .air and .cfg, which one can take from some AI models/ships published some time ago at the usual sources. There are only few AI ships specially made for FS9 - so I had to reconfigure such originaly amde for CFS2. With the correct FS9 .air and .cfg they work wonderfully in FS9. At least you get more variety but mostly navy ships - only few Liberty/T2/Victory and almost no cruise ships / liners. I have repainted many of the cargo vessels but post-war civilian ships are missing (except "Normandy" and few fishing boats. That's why I am so fond of ships from the 50ies and 60ies. I have ni idea how to reconfigure from FSX to FS9. I was trying to do this by editing .dds textures into .DXT3 but no success - it did not work also with the SS Martha as outlined in your comment. So - if you would reconfigure I could test these ships with my FS9 traffic patterns.
Looking forward on your comments and thanks again
Kalle
