I was thinking...why didn't the AI planes come with sounds? Perhaps a sound pack for the AI planes and helicopters could be released.

You can't get separate sound for AI aircraft, I managed to get helicopter sounds for my ai helos but it is a bit of a drawn out process involving altering sound files. If Tom could find the post from the old forum it is explained there, I have just re-installed my FS and doing it again is on my to do list.

So where can I get sounds for the AI propliners? Jets are ok as I can use the stock FS9 sounds.

Well like I said above it means playing around with the sound files, but before you do make sure you do a back up in case it goes wrong.
You can get some sound file from downloaded aircraft, others from websites etc.
The files you can change are:
ai_singleprop01, 02,03,04 xai_singleprop01,02,03,04 ai_twinprop01 ai_twinturboprop01,02 xai_twinturboprop01,02

There's FSHotSFX (payware) which lets you assign sound sets to ac models. You won't get custom idle or startup/shutdown sounds, though.

Hi,
FSHotSFX provides sounds to AI aircraft, not your flyable ones. I use it and it's great. But be warned that you will receive no support from the authors - they've left long ago... Be SURE it works in the Demo before buying it, and don't expect ANY product support, except for getting new reg numbers for reinstalls. Happy to answer possible questions here though.
Since I use this program, I haven't put together a default AI sound package, sorry. But I did change my piston AI idle sound to the idle sound in the Propsound package just by copying and renaming.

Hi, I also use FSHotSFX and it works. As Tom wrote, unfortunately there is no support any more What we would need is an clever simmer, who has an idea what to do, to get AI sounds without FSHotSFX via FSUIPC. Eventually then we have the chance to hear piston prop reverser and startup sounds. ( missing from FSHotSFX ) Is there anyone out there, who likes the "challenge" ? Wolfgang

Speaking of FSHotSFX, which I have used for a couple years, I have a question if anyone might know the answer.
Some time ago, I noticed that my "touchdown' sound (which previously had always worked just fine) started to make the screech sound at about 100 feet above the runway. It does this for all AI and for all airports. Finally I just turned down the sound level until a fix can be found. Has anybody ever experienced this problem and knows a fix for it? I cannot find my old registration number so I can't download the newest version which hopefully might overwrite the original file which controls that particular sound and when it is played. I currently us version 1.1.0.61

Hi, same with me, since I updated FSUIPC higher than 3.4. I´m a bit unhappy with this "failure" I tried many workarounds, but without luck.
Unfortunately there is no freeware alternative.

Perhaps I could copy and paste sound files from flyable planes... Will it work?

Hi,
Yes, it will work fine, as long as you rename your copied files to match that of the original files, found in the main FS SOUND folder. The ones with xai in front are external sounds; the others that start with ai are internal sounds.
Most of our piston planes use the ai_twinprop01.wav and xai_twinprop01.wav files; the turboprops use the ai_twinturbo01.wav and xai_twinturbo01.wav, and the jets use the ai_lgjet01.wav and the xai_lgjet01.wav files.
Keep in mind that you would normally use idle sounds for these files.
Hope this helps,

For those of you who use FS HotSFX and have problems with it, I solved my problems by going back to an earlier version of FSUIPC. I had been using FSUIPC 3.8, and my FS HotSFX was not playing the sound files correctly. The touchdown screen was being played at about 150 feet above ground level.
I renamed the old FSUIPC dll and ini files so that FS would not read them, and installed FSUIPC version 3.4 of those same files.
Now everything is fine. So if you have problems like this, just use a version of FSUIPC older than version 3.5. You will find all the FSUIPC in the FS Modules folder, for those who don't know.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for this solution. I had notice this many months back and always thought that a sound file had gotten corrupted some how. It nice to have the touch down sound back instead of 150 ft up.
