Many years ago in the early days of the Manned Space Flight Program, NASA had 35 tracking stations scattered around the world plus 5 tracking ships that were used as gap fillers when the land based stations could not send nor receive signals from the space craft. I was lucky enough to serve a tour on Bermuda which everyone knows is a paradise for vacationers and honeymooners. I always wandered around the Islands with my trusty map, which I came across the other day; showing signs of being attacked by various critters.
I thought hey, someone enterprising young airman might just want to use this for some scenery and I scanned it this morning to post. There are a couple of holes but they are negligible. One thing that stands out down at Somerset is the Somerset Bridge. This is the smallest drawbridge in the world. It is only one foot wide. It consists of two 6inch planks across the road that open up just wide enough for sailboat masts to go thru. Incidentally, the entire island of Bermuda is only 21 miles long. Until 1946, automobiles were prohibited and transportation was via bicycle or motor scooter or horse draw carriages. On the far NE corner of Saint George is Saint Catherine Point. This is the location of Fort St. Catherine which was used during the United States civil war by the Confederate forces to store arms and supplies. It was heavily fortified with large cannons.
