I found the file for removing the "Oversized Default Ships" for FS9...but the file it references does not exist in FSX so not sure if I can even use the two replacement .bgl's in that file or where to put them if I can.
Does anyone know how to remove the Oversized Default Ships in FSX?
Thanks

That depends on if they are static (i.e. scenery objects) or moving (i.e. AI ships).

Since I just installed Henrik's Classic Ships files I obviously don't need the AI Ships and believe I don't need the static ships either... but what I really want to get rid of are the huge cruise ships...they just don't look right in the classic scenery. Any other "oversize" ships I probably wouldn't know the difference so they could stay.
Does that answer your question...I hope?

Well, the easiest way to remove all of them at once is to rename the entire BGL file that contains them. I.e. rename the vehicles_water.BGL file in the FSX/Scenery/Global/scenery folder to vehicles_water.BGL.orig. But that will remove ALL boats, small and large.
A more selective way is to remove them from (a copy) of the default library BGL file that contains them, using ModelConverterX (MCX). Make a backup copy first (somehow renamed, like vehicles_water.BGL.orig). Then open the vehicles_water.BGL file in MCX, and press the Scenery Objects Editor button just to the right of the green arrows in the upper left. Click on each line and view the boat. If you want to remove it, click Remove Object at the top of the box. Continue until you have checked all boats. Then you can use Export Scenery (drop down box should say BGL) and save it using the same name as your original BGL file (overwriting it). Make sure you have your backup file first!
And to remove the AI boats (not what you asked), you can rename the Trafficboats.BGl file to Trafficboats.bgl.orig in the FSX/Scenery/World/scenery folder.
Hope this helps,

Thanks Tom...and thanks for the additional "how to" instructions. I figure anyone can do the easiest way...but it takes a real fool to do it the hard way...well I qualify so I'll give it a try. Never used MCX but hopefully I can figure it out.

Sorry Tom...have been trying to do what you said but: -Using version 1.3.0.0 of MCX - No "Scenery Objects Editor" anywhere on UI - Went through the manual but could find nothing on removing or deleting an object - Went to the forum for MCX and still could find nothing on delete or remove an object - Button to the right of the green arrow is a list view...opened that, saw the cruise ships I want to remove (2)...highlighted one of them but no choice to remove or delete - Next button to the right of that is "Object Information" where there was an Edit button. Clicked on that and erased the name of the object and its GUID but no save button so just closed the window and exported back to FSX then reopened...nothing had changed.
Sorry, that what sounded so easy, has turned into a real pain.

Hi,
You need to download the latest development version of MCX (1.4.x). Version 1.3 is very old.
Hope this helps,

Hi, there is one negativ side effect when you remove the object and with it the id. Some FSX missions make use of these object and they will Crash if they Not find them. I did it and it was a long way to find this darn bug. So make a copy! Cheers Bernie

Really appreciate you all spending time on such a minor issue.
Ok...I was using the last "stable" version...now downloaded the developer version and it is as Tom described. However, tried to export and it said I needed to set the path for the FSX_BGLCompPath...found that and set the path in the options. It also said it needed the path to "ship2vecPath". Did a search on my computer and no such file found. Looked again in the manual and found nothing. Again looked on the forum and no reference to such a file.
Any ideas now?
Thanks,

Hi,
It's shp2vec.exe, not ship2vec.exe. Mine is located in the SDK/Environment Kit/terrain sdk folder.
Hope this helps,

Finally...success! My mistake on reading that file name...guess I need to make my screen fonts bigger...again.
Had to specify about 4 more item paths, but once I did, it finally worked.
Again, thanks for your help on this minor issue...and, yes I did save the original file...just in case.
