New DC-6, DC-6B, and IL-14 textures

Hi all.

I have just uploaded to Flightsim several sets of textures for the Greg Pepper DC-6 and DC-6Bs, and for Jens Kristensen's IL-14s.

First of all are two Mackey Airlines. The file name is MackeyDC6s.zip.
Here is a DC-6 (notice how Mackey installed an extra window by the props in order to increase seating on its short runs). 

and a DC-6B  (pics are taken at the new KMIA Miami 62 scenery announced on this forum)


Next are two Pan Am DC-6Bs from 1961 at Chris Helton's wonderful JFK scenery. The file name is PanAmDC6s.zip. First, your typical Super Six "Rainbow class" tourist seating

and next is a high density, all economy class seating used on the Inter German service (sitting at the wonderful Central Europe scenery, here shown at Frankfurt), and on the no frills economy flights from New York to San Juan, Puerto Rico via Miami, Florida.  These are no meal flights.  The galley has been removed to install more seats, and small windows have been added near the props for even more rows of seats.  The lavatories have been moved to the rear.


Now we have two Northwest DC-6Bs.  The file name is NorthwestDC6s.zip.  The first is Northwest's all first class "Imperial Service" seating.  Here shown at Seattle at the Pacific Northwest scenery.

next we have Northwest's all coach "Coronation Coach" service.  Here it is at Portland at the Pacific Northwest scenery.


Finally we have textures for Jen's IL-14s.  These include the Super, the M, and the P models.  I had earlier released repaints, but I have changed the night textures so as to darken the baggage windows and flight engineer/navigator windows.  Other tweaks to the textures have been made.  Thanks to Tom for his book on IL-14s which allowed be to create a new window layer for the early Avia Super 14s that eliminated the square emergency windows on the sides.  Those came later on in the mid 1960s.  There are new paints, and I have now created new paints for the non-European IL-14s.  I have not taken pics of all of them, so you will have to see them for yourself in FS. This is too massive for one single file.  There are two files to download. The first is the European IL-14s. That file name is il14_europe_3.  The second file are all the other non European versions.  The name of that file is il14_noneurope.zip.

Notice that the Cubana IL-14 (Avia 14-32) is the only IL-14 that was used with no black propellers. They had no need for the black anti-ice paint on the props so they just used bare metal props. This was a surprise to me. I didn't know before now why all the props were black, at first I thought it was due to low grade steel and the paint was kept to keep them from rusting. Turns out it was some type of anti-icing paint

Also if you look at the windows on the Pan Am high density DC-6B, there is a very small window just ahead of the passenger door. It is too small to be a normal seat window, yet I understand that the galley that used to be in that location was removed in order to install yet another row of seats. Without a cabin diagram, I can't imagine what was there.  Maybe this is the punishment you get for being the last to board....staring out of a very tiny window for the entire trip!

Another trivial thing about this Pan Am high density DC-6B. It has large PAN AM identifiers on each wing, top and bottom. This was the plane that flew through the corridors over East Germany to and from West Berlin. Pan Am wanted to make very sure that any Mig pilots knew exactly what they were aiming their gun sights at.

After the 727 went into service on the internal German routes, Pan Am moved these high density DC-6Bs to Southeast Asia. Many a service member who was over in Vietnam during the war flew on one of these to Bangkok, Hong Kong, Manila, and Kuala Lumpur on "R and R" flights.

Mackey Airlines was in operation in our era, then Eastern bought them in 1967. But Joe Mackey still wanted to be in the airline business and he formed Mackey International Airlines that flew throughout the 1970s, which is the airline most people think of by that name.
