Hi there, For all who have like myself been disappointed by the in 2011 announced but never released FS2004/FSX by Jens B. Kristensen with almost two dozen paints by yours sincerely, this time good news. Flight Replicas is very busy producing FSX with Accelleration, FSX Gold and P3Dpackages of the Douglas C-54/DC-4 (military, civil and water bomber) and of the Aviation Traders ATL.98 Carvair. The screenshots as shown on Flight Replicas' Facebook homepage look extremely promising (imho). www.facebook.com/Flight-Replicas-204948632905099/?hc_ref=ARRiWHVX2a8M43JzMvj0ws2KHp8VHrXjJg3hImo_z8cxjhV6nboMcns88STu_N31LXE&fref=gsI don't know who are responsible for building these models, but I feel convinced that I finally will have to add FSX on my PC, just for the fun of flying these beauties. The same team also made a package of the Canadair North Star/Argonaut which has already been released. www.flight-replicas.com/NorthStar_Home.htmCheers, Maarten

Maarten - correct this is a work of art as far as textures and detail is concerned. I have been eagerly awaiting the release of this one, although I must confess the Carvair is of no interest but the DC-4/D-54 yes. I will then honourably retire the JBK DC-4 to my past classics hangar alas along with the Jahn L049/L749, replaced by the A2A L049 but not the L1049G/H EC121. Alas I retired the Cal Classic DC-6 and 7 when the PMDG DC-6 came out and it also is an outstanding creation.
I have the FR Canadair C-4 (or the Merlin powered pressurised DC-4 by Canadair) and I can attest to it being of excellent quality with no bugs that I have found yet. Same with FR's Heron which was also a gem. It is great and I expect the DC-4 to be the same. September is about the release date some say.
Along with the Jahn Teams C-47 V4 I can only remark on the quality and fidelity of these new aircraft, most of which have only arrived in the past 12 months which has to my mind realised the tremendous potential that FSX always had but seemed to be missing and which was for a long time restricted to MS2004 portovers, some of course which will remain in service with me in FSX for a long time (All JBK models). When yo combine that with the world scenery and local scenery especially mesh and LC for FSX now out by ORBX and others you have an amazing simulation experience. Just the other day AH via JF released the FSX Curtis C-46 Commando which again seems very good but has a few bugs, typical of JF stuff but no show stopper.
There are of course still missing a good number of aircraft from the Cal Classic period such as Convairs etc and I am not sure if they will ever get done. I think another important point about all these new releases and FSX in generally is the emphasis on VC's and the phase out of 2D panels and popups in models. As I only fly with VC but I like subpanel popups, there are a large number of simmers who prefer 2D panels who would find these very difficult, the other thing is they are so well modelled you can spend months on one type only getting to understand its sytems and how to fly it.
Looking forward to the DC-4 indeed.
