Suddenly I find that every single .air file is corrupt. Check out the last picture here...... www.members.cox.net/jaymom2/flightsim.htmlAnyone else ever seen this? I have tested many cd's that i use for aircraft backups and they all have the same problem. Nothing shows up as AI. I just reinstalled FS9. Harold

Hi,
That icon in the error message is not from FS. Did you install something like Adobe Air? It uses AIR files too, and that's what might be the problem. What are you doing to get this error? Double clicking the AIR file? If so, that other program is trying to open them.
From the web:
"I think I had some problems with file associations, now I have assigned *.air files with Adobe AIR. As I wrote the icon of *.air file was blank. I have found that Microsoft Flight Simulator uses *.air files, thus it might had been a conflict(maybe)."
Hope this helps,

Harold, it might be possible to email you an air file to see if it works. I don't know which ai aircraft you are using, but I might have one in my hangar.

Having recently had Adobe Air install itself on a new machine without asking when installing Acrobat I can confirm that I recognise the screen shot as being exactly that and nothing to do with your FS installation.
A search on the web reveals a lot of worries about Adobe Air's security - it apparently allows remote installation of software. I removed mine and am none the worse for it - Acrobat will still work.

On a related issue, I un-installed Acrobat reader and use "Foxit" it is half the size of Acrobat and it reads PDF files.

Well you guys nailed it right on the money. It was Adobe Air. I deleted it but still had to reinstall FS9. I deleted everything associated with FS9 first though. So now its back to reinstalling all my aircraft.
Many thanks,
Harold

I'm sure you didn't need to reinstall FS. Let us help next time.

They cant of course not be all corrupt, or you have a HD failure.. but then most doesnt work. To see into the AIR file, you need AIRED, and then there are some tricks to hide the content. Anyhow, messing with airfiles is not for the ordinary simmer, I worked for PSS in the begining on airfiles for them, 747, DASH and burned my midnight oil on them. Anyhow, if you want to change someting, maybe I can help, maybe not.. :-)

My .air files have been aliased to Adobe since I installed FS9 on this machine November last year. I had just figured it was an XP thing. Using AirEd the files open, can be edited and saved ok but XP will does not include AirEd as an application that can open files for some reason. Adobe of course chokes on the .air files but since I don't use it with them, the only effect I've seen is that the files show the Adobe icon rather than the little winged icon and I have to open AirEd to access the files rather than double clicking the airfile icon and having AirEd open automatically. Other than that, it seems work as designed so I'm leary of trying to fix it. Chris

This sort of thing happens from time to time. Perhaps I've just been lucky, but this method has always worked for me in the past.
Right-click on the problem file and select "Open With.....". A short menu of suggested applications will appear. If you don't see the application you want to use to open the file, select the "Choose Program" option at the bottom of the menu box. That will let you select any application in your computer.
Cheers,
Glenn

What really annoys me about this is that evidently no-one at Adobe knew, or cared, that the '.air' filetype was already in use by a major application with a world-wide installation base. It is dead easy to find out, if you want to....or mebbe the marketing people have taken over that asylum too MikeW
