Has anyone made the CC AI traffic files converted to FSX available? I'm getting a bit tired of the modern ear in FSX but would like to keep my ground and ship traffic.

Hi,
AFAIK it's pretty easy to convert them yourself using AI Flight Planner. Just load them into the program, and save in FSX format (I think).

Thanks Tom! I've kind of been out of the mucking about with AI thing for a years and got to thinking about resetting FSX SE to 1959ish.

I installed the CalClassic AI traffic in the FSX without converting it and everything flies well.

I installed the CalClassic AI traffic in the FSX without converting it and everything flies well. I've always heard that FS9 AI traffic files will kill the FSX ones. Is this not so?? I want to keep my ship and ground traffic going.

Hi,
Yes it’s true. Any FSX formatted AI traffic file will not load if an FS9 formatted file is loaded. Also, if you do use the FS9 formatted file in FSX, the flights will be shifted by one day, and a few somewhat obscure airports will not be used due to ICAO code changes between the sims.

Because of conflicting reports, I decided to just go ahead on and install a FS9 traffic file into FSX SE and see what happens. Took off from Newark and no other air traffic. Ships were gone except for a few next to "piers", but those could have been static. Some sailboats going around in the water though. The freeways were packed with vehicles. No ground vehicles at airports either.
So, it appears the answer is yes and no in my install. Looks like I'm going to have to figure out how to convert FS9 traffic files to FSX standard if I want to keep my ship traffic.

Ok, got the Propliner traffic bgls for 1959 converted to FSX native and installed. All the default traffic is back. Everything's looking good and all conditions normal, ie: Something's about to explode.
Now to install some Propliner AI aircraft and scenery and see what happens.

Willy, can you convert CalClassic AI traffic 1967 and MATS for FSX? Vlad

Vlad, you cannot do it yourself with AI Flight Planner?

Vlad, so far I've only converted the two 1959 files in one batch and I'm still unsure of the process and want to make sure I've got it right before going much farther. But the process seems simple enough (which is what worries me, lol)
I need to install the aircraft now (probably late tomorrow as I've got a full plate of r/l stuff during the day)

Stupid Simmer Trick of the Day
Due to some self inflicted shenanigans in trying to set up a separate folder in Sim Objects for AI aircraft, I managed cause the sim to not see them. I had the not so genius idea of changing the catagory = in the aircraft.cfg files for the AI from airplane to AI_airplane. It didn't work. Once I changed them back to airplane, the AI aircraft were showing back up just fine. But putting them in a separate folder in Sim Objects does work. Just leave the catagory in the aircraft.cfg alone.
I did manage to get a bunch of high quality C-46s & Beech 18s flying about as AI too. Guess I need to start installing some back dated airfields to go with them. Think I'll go local with Ark La Miss and Memphis first. Then expand out from there.

I've been using texture aliasing on the AI aircraft to cut down on hard drive space usage. No sense packing all those duplicate textures along. Just have to be careful and keep the ones that are different in every texture folder for the aircraft. Also while they respond well to .dds conversion, in most cases, I'm keeping the bmp format (for now at least). Except for the prop blur textures. I'm renaming FSX native ones to use there.
