Hi all, I've been working on getting FS2004 conversions to FSX format working using ModelConverterX. Thanks to some changes by Arno to this program, it has become feasible to do this. For the test subject I've used Greg Pepper's trusty DC-6B model. I have uploaded a test model for people to try if they want to see if it is working in their sim. It seems to work fine in FSX. You can download it here: www.calclassic.com/Temp/dc6b_FSX.zipBasic instructions in the zip file. You install the DC-6B Base Pack into your sim, using the FSX instructions. Then add the files in the zip. A tutorial I've written on this conversion is available here: www.calclassic.com/convert_tutorial/index.htmlEnjoy,

Great work Tom. I used your instructions and converted my Manfred Jahn L-1649A Ver. 4.0 over to FSX. Those of use using p3D v4 will still have problems with sound and fuel dump gauges, as they are 32 bit, but the planes fly.
ModelConverterX is a great program. I look forward to future changes in upgrading these great CalClassic aircraft.

Hi Bill,
That's great to hear. If you convert any of "my" aircraft I'd love to have them. However, it seems that not many people are interested at this point.
Thanks,

Greeting Tom This is my dropbox link to my converted model folder for the L-1649A www.dropbox.com/sh/8trw9nk7e2f7mbw/AAD3cui_kMXz4qB2L_GXkH6fa?dl=0I did the best I could, but no guarantees. I would have thought a lot of people would be interested. I'm sure more people will look into it eventually. It would be a shame to have fs9 planes go to waste.

Thanks, grabbed them. For some reason my FSX (SP2) would not load the MDL files, so I Imported them into MCX and Exported them using my XtoMDL.exe program. Now they loaded just fine. Everything looks great except I don't have any slow or blurred props, just the still props (they are animated though).
Thanks again,

Tom
I think I know what the problem was. I've got P3D v4, so I'm sure there are enough differences to make things problematic. I hope you can tweak the props. The L-1649A is a great aircraft.

If you exported to P3D format then that is indeed the reason. I've added the slow and blurred props. Contact me at tgibson at sdsu dot edu and we can talk about how to get that to you.

Tom I'm sure I will be so glad this works when I'm on FSX in a few years! :-) Thanks for all you're doing.

I will be interested in any for P3Dv4. Especially the Convairs. The DC-6 CB16 works fine in P3Dv4 by the way.

Hi,
Thanks for the feedback.
There is already a Convair 580 in FSX format in case you missed it. I hope that others will take up the project too and this becomes a collaborative job.

Hi Tom, Quite a long time I didn't come here, such news is always a good news Great work ! This makes me think: Would it be possible to convert all of the classic AI traffic models to the fsx format so they can finally work with P3D v4? This would be absolutely awesome ! I abandonned a bit (very sadly) the classic airliners as for development purposes I need to almost always permanently work on P3D, especially v4. As I was used to the incredible immersion of my classic FS9 with all the sceneries and ai traffic, I just can't stand anymore flying these old birds with 787 flying around

Although I swore I would never do this, I now have what I believe to be a working version 64 bit version of the old sound gauge that Ken Mitchell's panels typically use. If anyone wants to give it a try in P3Dv4, drop me an e-mail at contact at douglassdawson dot ca and I can flip it over to you.

Hi Doug,
Thanks! That was one thing I wasn't going to do (update all the panels to the new sound format) so this is really good news. Let us know when/if you release it and I'll include it in my packages (or provide a download link). I don't have P3D and so I can't test it though. Hope someone else takes you up on this.

I updated by DC-6 with the 64 bit files and I have cockpit sounds and squeaking brakes in P3Dv4. Thank you very much Doug. You have breathed new life into an old airplane.
