The supercharger shaft back from the engine could break, flailing around breaking hydraulic lines and creating a torch. The solution was the "drainpipe", a heavy pipe that surrounded the supercharger shaft.

Reading up after a longish absence, I find this topic has another fascinating chapter added to it.
Apart from the mentioned crew rest, I suppose there is little point in departing again within a few hours after a flight returns due to excessive headwinds. Even if there was another crew available, they would probably have waited for roughly the same amount of time for less unfavourable conditions.
