Thanks again for testing. I have now created an FSX/P3D CV-340 installation package, which should be more automatic than the current method. Let me know how it works for all of you FSX and P3D folks. See the new thread on the topic.

Hi Tom,
It might make things simpler, I feel, to have a separate FSX model. I do still use FS2004, but it might get a bit complicated for some of the newer folks to simming who may be using only the Steam version of FSX or are using P3D, seeing as to how those two programs are still readily available for purchase. Graphics are undoubtedly better in those two programs and as CalClassic scenery and ai become more and more compatible with them, I can see myself relying on FSX for my simming. Panels, yes, are a challenge, but overall I think that the higher graphic programs are becoming the "goto" programs for simming. I do have to say that that I've enjoyed years of simming in the CalClassic era with the fantastic scenery and models presented here, so I certainly don't want to belittle the works of yourself and others in everything you've given us. The decision is ultimately yours and I'm sure we'll all respect whatever path you decide to take.
Regards, Phil

Hi Tom,
since I fly most with FSX the answer is clear. But for my model design with FSDS3.5 I still use the FS2004 compiler.
The XtoMdl compiler together with FSDS leads to weired results.
I'm now with 3DSMax (for Train Simulator), but progress is slow.
Cheers Bernie

Not exactly sure what's going on, but I don't seem to get part of the FSX tweaks when installing. Am I not using the correct base pack for FSX?
Here's what I did, within the last few hours: - Downloaded from calclassic.com/dc7c.htm the DC-7C base pack, the United DC-7 base pack through the link there and the high quality sound incl. update. - Installed both planes into FS2004 according instructions, all fine. - Installed the DC-7 into FSX according instructions. Confirmed using the gauges upon first run and could fly the plane. - Upon the 2nd and further tries to use the DC-7, FSX crashed as soon as I selected the plane. - Found out the panel.cfg in FSX still had the realistic engine start gauges active. I did not expect that after following the FSX install instructions. - Commented out those gauges and there was a flyable DC-7 again in FSX. - Added the DC-7C to FSX as per the readme. Was flyable but no picture in the aircraft menu. - Still no picture in the FSX aircraft menu (no jpg in the download) and same engine starter torque in the aircraft.cfg. The changes that I do see there are under the general, airplane geometry, stall warning and turn indicators sections.
The above aside, I also vote for FSX only in the poll. We can always download the FS2004 model if we want to, the FSX installation will be more straightforward and the packages will be less complicated to maintain. Obviously, if you decide to leave the FSX part to someone else that's OK too, Tom. We will still be spoiled with everything else you provide here.
Cheers, Erik

It dawned on me overnight (pun sort of intended): despite saying 'according instructions' I left the files generated by Setup_FSX.exe of the DC-7C under 'aircraft' in FSX. Moved them where they should be and now I have the picture in the aircraft menu and correct starter torque.
Thanks!

Hi,
Glad to hear it. I realized that I had a step in the installation instructions out of order and that could be the result. That has been corrected.

Very strange I seem to have NO problems flying CalClassic FS2004 planes in FSX.You can see the clouds through the blurred props Yeah I thought this problem cannot be fixed. If it is already fixed for FSX, what can I do to export that to my CalClassic planes in FSX, please?
BTW, I clicked on FSX to vote for it but cannot find "post" or "vote" button to finalize my voting. So can you please put my vote on FSX for me?
Thanks,
Aharon

Hi Aaron,
You simply replace the FS2004 MDLs with the FSX MDLs to fix the blurred prop problem. So far the FSX MDL files available are the L-1649A Starliner and DC-7C (this thread), the CV-340 (adjacent thread), as well as the CV-580 and F-27 (by Bjoern, on their respective aircraft pages).
As for the poll, to vote you click the box at the left edge of your choice. Once a checkmark is in that box, you have voted.
Hope this helps,

Leaving the mentioned files under 'aircraft' in FSX was entirely my fault Tom, it wouldn't have happened if I had followed the already prescribed installation steps correctly. I just dit it all again and it works perfectly, right from the start.
Thanks! Erik
