As for your earlier question regarding the ceiling and speed on the L-1649A with LB only....I'll have to try that out in our sim version and see what we get. Is the sim L-1649 all that on the numbers to be useful to get an idea of how well the real deal works? I don't mean to be rude or question the quality of this GREAT plane, I only want to understand the reliability of the results. Right now, on my sim PC ( not the same I'm typing on) I was able, with a little attention to speed, climb ratio and switching at Auto Lean at 15000 feet, to bring the simulated old lady up to FL200 ( and she's still going at my left) renouncing to the commodity of the SM button and moving instead manually the blowers and mixture levers ( and not moving the blowers away from low). And she could fly even higher, with some attention. If the simulated plane is any indication, then the loss of power in having to renounce to the high blower is, as I supposed seeing the little gear induction ratio difference, relatively modest for a plane that doesn't have to forcibly operate at top performance, like a historical one, and is not bound the keep the old lady being restored by Lufthansa from reaching some of her old flight levels, if needed.

Probably not the way you most likely tried your test. If you simply do not switch to HB but leave everything else the same you are forgetting that with the lower octane fuel the engine at no time will deliver the same BMEP as with the octane fuel no longer available. The lower octane fuel would cause very damaging detonation much earlier. In order to try this out you have to actually know a little more data and then use either the status window or BMEP gauges to set power to an actually achievable level and try your test again.
How close will that get you to the real thing...probably close enough. But I think you are probably worrying about something that will not matter much to the real airplane once she is ready to take to the skies again.
There are no set time tables anymore, no irate customers if the flight takes a few minutes longer (probably the contrary) and within reason fuel consumption will be not a critical issue either.
