Former CalClassic and Windows XP owner
I'm a former CalClassic/FS Owner and operator looking for some help. It's been a while since I've used FS and CalClassic but would like to get back into it. The technology and skills required to get it up and running have far outpaced mine, but I would be happy to pay someone to set it up and download it for me. I currently have a 2017 27inch Mac, and that is about where my knowledge level stops. I think you can get an external drive and run it from there, or possibly even purchase a tower or laptop and have it run stand alone, I'm not sure what would be better, but setting up scenery/aircraft/panels is beyond me at this point. If anyone would be interested in doing so and compensated by me please PM me.
Thank You in advance, I hoping there is a way to get back at it.

Wow ! So many issues at stake here. Trying to think of where to start. Maybe Tom should should address this rather than anyone else, but I can't resist putting in my two cents.
First and foremost in my mind though is this: If John Q. hobbyist develops a piece of software, be it a particular airplane or scenery or a utility, it's usually made available as freeware. In the case of Calclassic, it's ALL freeware. When installing any of these programs, the end user must agree to not make it available for their own profit. Seems to me that by accepting payment to set up a system using this software one would be in violation of this agreement or trust.
I get a whole lot of fun "creating the world" when setting up FS. Kind of a God thing I guess. When FS is set up to my liking, it becomes "My world". For this reason I do every now and then, delete the whole shebang and start over. Yeah I know, sounds rather masochistic, but I enjoy it. Not saying this method is for everyone, but who knows, others might get just as big a bang as I in setting the system up.
You mentioned a Mac computer. To the best of my knowledge, FS doesn't run on Mac. So you'd want to start with a new Windows computer. Calclassic scenery I believe is still best run in FS 2004 (FS9), so you'd want to grab a copy of that. Still plenty available on eBay or Amazon. Downloading and installing addon scenery and aircraft is relatively easy, just time consuming. Really, it's not that difficult. Just do a little at a time and remember to take time to fly !
My top recommendation however, is to be active on this forum. I can't believe how much I've learned here about a great variety of topics. There's not a member here who isn't happy to help you out in any way. It's yours for the asking.
Enjoy ! OK maybe it was more than two cents,
Mike

In the case of Calclassic, it's ALL freeware. When installing any of these programs, the end user must agree to not make it available for their own profit. Seems to me that by accepting payment to set up a system using this software one would be in violation of this agreement or trust. A forum member offering to pay someone to install into pc system flight sim such as FSX and all freeware add ons is NOT violation of trust or agreement for same reason anybody offering to pay to computer whiz to build new pc system and install FSX as well as any freeware add on into the new pc system. You mentioned a Mac computer. To the best of my knowledge, FS doesn't run on Mac. It does since present day MACs can run both Apple and Windows operating systems BUT I would NOT recommend. Downloading and installing addon scenery and aircraft is relatively easy and not that difficult. If the original poster says he cannot do it as it is beyond his technical expertise and he needs help from someone to install for him, it means it is difficult for him hence he offering payment to anyone to help him. The original poster is correct about offering payment to anyone to help him install flight sim program and any freeware CalClassics add ons such as planes. There is nothing wrong with that. It is NOT acceptable and it is violation of copyrights if a person sells freeware add ons made by other people BUT BUT it is acceptable for anyone to help someone to install freeware addons into pc. Do you think it would be violation of trust and agreement if my grandpa asks me to visit him to set up his new pc and do all installations of FSX and all Calclassic planes and he thanks me by giving me 100 bucks? Regards, Aharon

Hi all,
It’s not a violation to charge for assisting someone to install software, freeware or not. I don’t see a problem if someone takes him up on his offer.

All,
I appreciate the replies. Not looking to stir the pot, just looking for a solution for someone, me, who isn't very tech savvy with the advances in software these days. I wish I still had access to an old laptop with windows XP, I was able to download scenery/planes/panel etc under that system, but now I struggle with file placement and getting things to work properly. While X plane on the MAC is great, I just want to roll around in Western's Convair all over California in the 50s. I'll keep this thread open in hopes that someone will take me up on my offer, and I have no intention of violating any forum rules or infringing on anyones proprietary work. I'm just hoping to get something up and running again...

After giving this issue some thought. I feel that if there are people out there who are dedicated enough to the hobby to develop and distribute freeware, then if feasible, I should gladly offer to help stinston100 for no charge. I would feel very, very guilty accepting money after all the stuff I've downloaded for free over the years. To me that's just a small amount of payback.
Stinson, if you're anywhere near Southern Maine, USA, send me a PM.

Cash, gift cards, beer of the month club, a 1/200 Connie or DC-7, I have a few extra drivers I don't use on the course and even some ski boots. The payment options are endless... if anyone is interested.

Being across the pond from you there isn't much I can do, but have you looked if there are any FS clubs near you? If so, there'll probably be folks who will happily help you out.
Good luck, Erik
