According to December 1962 issue of aviation magazine "Interavia", the Ilyushin IL-62 did a first roll-out at Moscow Khodynka Airport (then known also as "Moscow Central Airport") end of September 1962. It flew for the first time in January 1963. This is not the perfectly accurate aircraft. The original was registered as CCCP-06156. It crashed in 1965 on takeoff from Ramenskoye Airport. Bernard

It always was an impressive looking aircraft. One of my favorite jets, along with the VC-10.

I remember Interavia magazine, we had perhaps a dozen editions as my Father brought them home and they always had great pictures and line drawings to fascinate this then pre-teen aviation geek. The cover with the brand new Convair 990 featured has always stuck in my brain for some reason as does an article on the remarkable Hawker P-1127 Kestrel, which of course was developed into the BAE Harrier.
