Update ...
This is not dead, just next in line after we finish the HFDF gauge in the next few days. Tom had been helping me with both and Ken has been doing the beta testing, so as soon as things are finalized with the Weatherships HFDF gauge (to include longer range on the Ocean Stations) we'll crank up the factory again on this one!
More updates soon!

Hi,
Did this ever work out? Do you need anyone to help test?

Well ...
First off, I hope everyone is doing well these days considering everything that's been going on around the world for well over a year now (has it been that long?). Second, thanks for the interest in this project. It still has a special place with me since it would bring something to the sim that has been missing. It would be another long range tool for those that like to fly the larger metal, and could be made to work in two versions (FS9/FSX) with only a few changes to the code (if I remember correctly). If navigation is different enough in FS2020, I might even consider work on a paid version for that sim, but keep the earlier versions free. Not sure how much I would need to learn for that one, though, not to mention the fact I can't run it on any of my computers!
As for the project ...
Not exactly dead, but on hiatus for a little while. Suffice to say that between COVID and "regular" life, the other day was the first time that I've even fired up either of my sims (FS9 or FSX-SE) in almost seven (7) months. The maps are the first "research" I've done in almost as much time too.
Finished writing and publishing a book of short stories in that time and I'm working on another one, though main income still has to be regular work. Since I can't fly anymore (COVID + asthma + unable to wear mask for extended periods + unable to take vaccine = not many jobs out there), I'm trying to work at anything I can at this point. I've been a night security officer for a few months now at a local casino, but just got put on a form of medical leave the other day and will probably lose that job due to medical reasons (same ones as just stated).
Still not giving up, but the whole income thing comes first for now. I was able to finish one book and I'm working on another, but still trying to get and keep a "normal" job. Call me old fashioned. Besides, it's still going to be anther two weeks or so before the book comes out online after it gets final editor approval.
Trust me, the first chance I have to really dive into FS again, I'm going to tackle not just the LORAN again (MUST brush up on XML), but also try and finish Cuba '58 as well. It was initially started as a way to upgrade the Habana scenery and ended up being a project to set up the whole country as it was in the last year before Castro. Not exactly "accurate," but more to just give the place some local GA traffic and some things to see when you went up and down the country on scheduled flights. No more bare airports (they're all along the same lines as Acapulco '62 in that they use generic buildings) and lots of "ingenios" throughout. The "ingenio" was the name for the plantations/factories that processed the sugar, tobacco, etc.
Guantanamo wasn't even touched, though. I ended up using a slightly modified AFCAD I found online at Flightsim.com, if I remember correctly. That one would have to be done from scratch unless I could find out the author of the original. All I did was do the "propliner" parking and a few generic military buildings replacing the default ones at the same locations.
Anyway, that's it for now. Like I said, the LORAN isn't dead, per say, just on hold for a little while until things can get back on track and I can sit down and re-learn all the XML stuff I lost over the last year. On the bright side, I did manage to brush up on the Chicago Manual of Style for writing!
I hope everyone is holding up well and good luck in getting rid of the masks soon! (Safely, of course)
Regards,
Jorge Miami, FL

Jorge, so sorry to hear about your health problems; I hope I didn't come across as insensitive. Like you, I've been away from flight simulation for quite a while but I was sure I'd seen posts from you in the interim and so it didn't cross my mind that you were so affected.
Clearly, real world issues come way before simulated ones, but if you ever need a tester on the LORAN project, I'd be delighted to lend a hand.
Kind regards,
Andy

Jorge, hang in there. There's got to be a way out of this pandemic at some point in time. Good luck with your publishing.

Andy,
No worries, my friend. I don't take it as criticism or insensitive when it's posted the way you did. It's fairly obvious you were just interested in whether or not it was still being worked on, and for that I'm gratefull.
Considering that Tom and I had already gotten a form of cathode ray screen to work, I really hope I get the chance to work on this again in the near future. Ken was also giving a lot of support by way of testing, so I hope he's doing well too. I sent him an e-mail not too long ago but never got a response.
Thanks for the interest and I hope I can get back to this soon. Give it some time, that's all!
Regards,
Jorge Miami, FL
