I tired compatibility mode, setting WinXP service pack 3. Same thing in Full Screen mode. Looks my attempt to get FSX back and fly the old planes might have to wait for another day or the next install of Win 10.
I san start in Windowed mode, but when switch to full screen, FSX crashes.
End of ideas of on this one.

I fly in Windowed mode almost all of the time anyway, so why can't you do that?

Well, I like full screen. ;-) I found the (...a...?) fix. Going by the age old advice not to use DirectX 10 Preview, I did not have that checked. I found this YouTube video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNdovXInUz8It said to check DirectX 10 Preview. That solved the problem, for now... We'll see what happens here! Everyone, thanks for your help! The plot thickens, or at least returns to where we were...
After selecting DirectX10 Preview, I can get FSX to run full screen. However, after loading the Cal Classic Static Object File (2 base files, the FSX conversion, and the Abacus file), and then the CA59 file, I was able to still FSX running, but with the same transparency issues that I described at the beginning of the post. There was a recommendation to turn DirectX 10 preview OFF to fix that problem, which...after switching to the Window Mode... fixed the scenery transparency problem. Also, some additional scenery showed up as well.
All this leads me to believe that Steve's DX10 fixer did not completely uninstall itself. Since it was my plan to re-load Steve's fixer and apply the recommendations also provided in this post, that may not be much of an issue.
Another quick question. Is FSX SE any different? I had heard that many of the issues with DirectX were fixed by Dovetail in FSX SE. At this point, do you think it's better to just switch over to FSX SE and call it good?
Thanks,
Rich Boll

I run FSX Steam and always in full screen mode. Most Calclassic scenery and AI traffic that I have installed works quite well, with the odd exception of a few buildings not showing up for London Heathrow and Gatwick. My OS is Windows 10 and DirectX 10 is unchecked. There are also a few minor transperancy issues mainly with airport names, which seems to depend on the viewing angles.

With FSX SE, is there a need to use Steve's DX Fixer? Rich

That is for DX10 and he says it is unchecked.

Yes Tom, that is right. DirectX 10 is unchecked as I believe it is required in order to display some aircraft models properly I also switch back and forth from full screen to windowed screen quite often if I need to do some research while I am doing a flight.

I thought I would close this one. I have re-installed FSX. As long as DX-10 preview is checked, I can run full screen. I believe this has something to do with my use Steve's DX 10 fixer. I may not got it completely uninstalled, and it was messing with my FSX install. I have Steve's DX 10 fixers back installed. Same problem as before; however, under the FOG and MISC section, I check the "8 bit Texture Fix". That has fixed nearly all of the texture issues. There are still a few items that are showing transparent at LAX, but by and large I'm satisfied with it. The reason I need DX 10 is that I do plan on using addons like Captain Sim's B707, and the DX 10 AA features are required for flight instrument quality, particularly the ADI. For now, I'm going to keep "8 Bit Texture Fix" checked, but will look at using the Tool provided to convert the 8 Bit textures to 16 textures. One problem at time as they say. I still have a problem with AI traffic, but I'm going to start a new thread on that one. Thank you everyone, for all your help! Rich Boll
