"the times they are a-changin'"
So many airports shutting down, so many parked aircraft, especially in Europe. I remember, on the 12th of September in 2001, waiting at the bus stop for my son to come home from school, how quiet it was where I live. Looking up at the sky, I knew there was not a single commercial aircraft in the air, anywhere in North America. It was unreal, I remember wondering if this was how the world was 100 years earlier, in 1901, before the arrival of powered flight. So quiet, and the fact that the only things flying in the air were birds.
How close we are today, 2020, to what it was like in 2001. Will it get to the point where the restrictions on travel actually ground all commercial aircraft, and the skies will belong to the birds once again? The news on COVID-19 in the U.S. is not encouraging. It may be that, one day, we look back on the last days of March and say, "wow, we only had 2,000 deaths, then?" When in weeks/months to come that number may triple? (if what the CDC is predicting, right now, is close to truth).
Stay healthy, stay strong. We'll get over this.

I live in Charlotte, NC, an American hub, and although we're a number of miles from the airport, you can still see aircraft coming and going. It is indeed eerie on how quiet the skies have gotten. Whereas there were many times during the day that you would see planes waiting for a gate to open, there are always empty gates now. What we're going thru now will be a historical event for generations to come to study, at least until the next pandemic arrives. I pray that all of you and your loved ones stay safe and healthy.
Regards, Phil
