More and more I am looking to 'building' a cockpit on my desk, putting up more and more hardware to flight simming, but I have run into a brick wall... limited USB ports on my computer. So far, I have keyboard, mouse, flight yoke, rudder pedals and just added throttle quadrant, and that takes all my USB ports. Now, I want to add a flight radio stack (which, of course, is also USB), but without any place to plug it in, I started thinking...
USB hubs. If I could get a 4 port USB hub, and plug in all my FS hardware into that, and that plugs into the PC.... opens a world of possibilities. However, will it work? Like a power strip, where you plug the strip into the wall and then plug in several electrical things, and they all get their power, but would it work with USB devices like Flight Sim hardware? Ideas...? Of course, I would like to know before paying $$$ for something that won't do what I need it to do....

Hi there,
I've done exactly that on my computer as well. I don't seem to have any lag whatsoever by using the hub. I have all CH products plugged in there-yoke, pedals and throttle quadrant. I am only using 3 of the 4 available ports, but all seems to work fine. These are all USB 2 devices BTW. I feel that you should be fine using one to consolidate your devices.
Regards, Phil

Many thanks for the input. The reason for all this is; I had seen someone's setup and it looked awesome, but they were using the VC and I wanted to try and duplicate. So, I have shifted over to VC-usage and had to dust off the throttle quadrant for the extra functions. Now, to unlearn some of the habits of years to familiarize myself with a few new buttons and processes. So far, so good. Opens quite a new world of viewing, actually, and I am no longer 'afraid' of aircraft that have only the VC, and no 2D panel. I can cope.

Would wireless keyboard and mouse help free up a couple of USB ports. I'd be in the same boat as yourself if I didn't have the mouse and keyboard that I have.

A powered USB hub will be better.
