Most calclassic propliners I fly, the VOR DME shows up reading a distance of 99. The actual distance value does not start showing until the distance is below 99.
Just curious why the correct distance does not show, even when I am cruising at say FL240 which I believe would be high enough to receive the VOR station signal.

Taking a wild guess, I might say that the DMEs in the planes you're using display only 2 digits plus a decimal amt. These will show only up to 99.9 miles. Try to find a cockpit with DME that reads 3 plus decimal or xxx.x Not having a sim installed at the moment, I can't remember which ones do. You might try the Connies.
As Tom would say..............Hope this helps, Mike

AFAIK back in the day, DME only had two digits. Thus only out to 99 NM. In fact, my UAL DC-6/7 manual says when activated in November 1963 (they didn't have DME before that) that it should only be relied on up to 50 NM. Not quite the technology we have today.

Herman If anybody needs (disregarding the above realism comments) a three-digit display there is one that comes with the Manfred Jahn Lockheed Super Constellation, and provided the gauge file is in the FS gauges directory (not all aircraft install them there by default) it should be very easy to swap across to any aircraft. If it isn't there, copying or moving it to the gauges directory should not have any adverse effects. My entry for the L1049 reads: gauge12= L1049G!RadioDME, 512,822,104,59 and if you just substitute the bit I have highlighted into your chosen aircraft's panel.cfg file that should do the trick. Size and shape are very similar so it should fit nicely. The usual caveats about backups apply, of course. Best regards, John
