Until 1958 TEAL flew to Aitutaki at Cook Islands on the Coral Route. However, I couldn't figure out how the islands be reached in 1962. In the 1962 TEAL timetable Aitutaki is no longer listed. May someone have informations? Thanks for any advice.

Hi Bernard I have vintage charts for Aitutaki and I think a couple of old TEAL timetables somewhere. Will have a look tomorrow for you and see what I can find.

Bernard Had a quick look at the charts. There was an airstrip on the northern end of the island which the RNZAF built towards the end of WW2. The flying boat alighting area was on the southern end of the lagoon. I have a 1953 chart for Rarotonga which shows the island having an airstrip.

Thanks John. These two airstrips visible at Google Earth too are included by default in FS9. With Asia Pacific 1962 scenery package these are excluded. Whereas Rarotonga NCRG is a default airport as well.
But this doesn't really clarifiy which airline did flights to the Cook Islands in 1962. Either still with flying boat or landable aircraft.

While my 1959 OAG shows Aitutaki served by TEAL, the airport has been removed from the listing in my 1962 OAG. So it wasn't served at all by a scheduled airline that was included in that OAG. There might have been a small airline or taxi service that did it, I don't know. The airport had been there since WWII, so it could have been by water or by land.
The other island town served by the TEAL Coral Route in 1959 but dropped in 1962, Apia, was served in 1962 by Fiji, Samoan, and Polynesian.
Raratonga was not served by an OAG airline in 1959 or 1962.

I could be wrong, but was it because the Flying Boat service on the famous 'Coral Route' end, hence not continuing the service to Aitutaki?

Have uploaded charts and pics for Aitutaki to my Flickr page Link to the album: www.flickr.com/photos/12530375@N08/albums/72157714297869037Also found a couple of timetables from 1949 and 1957 among my bits and pieces. 1949: 1957: Polynesian Airlines apparently flew services into Aitutaki from 1963. In September 1960 TEAL discontinued the world's last scheduled international flying boat service. So what happened in the following years? As John points out, Rarotonga had at least an airstrip at the end of the war. This stamp has been issued in 1949. Bernard

Just wondering. With the default Aitutaki runway being removed is it possible to install a scenery for this airport?

As long as it would be placed into a scenery layer higher than Asia Pacific.
The other choice is to remove the AFCAD file for the airport from the Asia Pacific scenery folder, which should restore the default airport.

Hi Bernard. Loved your ship and caption with it! The only thing missing is some boarding stairs with a dinghy tied up to the bottom of it.
