I have dappled and dabbed a toe into the world of overclocking the GPU, so far so good and stable. Making the video card earn its keep while keeping things cool under the hood. Now, that brings me to the question;
I know that FSX-SE is quite CPU intensive, but is there a way, an entry, a tweak, in the .cfg file, that will put some of the burden of the sim off the CPU and onto the GPU? Perhaps some obscure, little known entry in the dusty annals of tweak-dom that will make some of that possible? The more of a burden off the CPU, the better, I know my video card can handle a heavier load. Just the overclocking effort (modest effort, by OC standards, I'm sure) has added a few frames to the overall performance. I know my BIOS and processor is not really geared for overclocking, and all I have is a setting turned on in the BIOS that does a little boost, which is why I turned to the GPU for some improvements.
Any thoughts?

No, what you want to do is not possible. MicroSoft coded FSX, and the Steam Edition is the same, just like they did for all of their previous versions of flight simulator. The bulk of the work is performed by the CPU. The graphics card can refine image clarity and more video RAM allows for higher detailed (larger) textures, but the CPU is still the single largest determining factor in FSX/FSX-SE performance. When Lockheed-Martin obtained the right to use and modify FSX to create their simulator, Prepar3D, they did some re-coding to put more of the burden on the GPU. They have also now made it a 64-bit program, which greatly diminishes the possibility of running out of virtual address space (VAS). MicroSoft's currently in development sim, MicroSoft Flight Simulator, will also be a 64-bit program and it will make good use of the graphics card.
Years ago I dabbled in overclocking video cards, never could get enough of a performance increase to justify the extra heat production.

Understood, then I stand at the plateau of performance, with my current rig lol. Gone as far as possible with FSX-SE. I occasionally fire up FS9, but find myself quickly leaving it again for FSX, addons have made it far better than anything FS9 could produce, and my hardware is adequate enough for FSX to give me a little more than an acceptable experience. I stand contented.
