Everts' DC-6B N151 has just landed in Stavanger, Norway non stop from Yellowknife, destined it seems for a museum. C/N 45496, it started life with Cathay Pacific in 1958 before going to Braathens SAFE as LN-SUB and I suspect it will be repainted as such.
Flightradar24 has some limited flight information for those who might want to simulate this extreme range flight, 15 hours 47 Minutes. Not much information on the track here and the only positions recorded are,
Departed Yellowknife Runway 16 2136 UTC Overhead Kulusuk, east coast of Greenland 0727 UTC at 12,500' descending to 11,000'. My guess is that it crossed the icecap at either 15,000' or 17,000'. Passed just north of Reykjavik 0910 UTC at 11,000' Landfall just north of Bergen 1246 UTC Low pass over Bergen Flesland airport 1252 UTC at 1,000' (?) then 3,000' (?) to Stavanger Landed Stavanger runway 36 at 1323 UTC
Hope this is of interest.
Bill

A short PS. Looking at the SkyVector charts for Greenland, the minimum altitude for that area is only 11,000' and I'm also sure that the aircraft's pressurisation system was decommissioned long ago. So maybe the crossing was at 11,000' although Flightradar24's data input shows altitudes of 14,350 and then 12,500 shortly before Kulusuk. They could be inaccurate.
Hopefully someone will publish a more detailed account of this trip before too long.
Bill

Hi,
What a wonderful surprise to have another big Doug saved, that's great. And what a sendoff - a nice long distance flight, just what it was designed for.

Excellent flight, thanks for sharing! Looks like they flew Fairbanks to Yellowknife to prepare for the crossing. I wonder if the crew at Buffalo Airways had a hand in making this journey possible?
Unfortunately this flight is impossible in the PMDG version, as the developers decided to equip her with only 60% of her maximum possible fuel capacity.
Bill, I hope you don't mind, I shared your excellent information about this flight on that forum.

Hi, and no problem with sharing information. There's more good stuff on the web already. And my apologies to daypharris who first told us about this project back in November. I'd completely forgotten. Re tanks, I don't use FSX but does this thread help? www.avsim.com/forums/topic/575594-expanding-dc-6ac-118-fuel-capacity/Note that his 24 May post is missing an important line. I'm sure the last set of numbers should read, // CONFIG for Serial 43819 and up --- total 5512 gallons LeftTip = -38.33, -42.13, 3.30, 695, 0.0 // MAIN #1 LeftMain = -37.57, -18.16, 0.95, 719, 19.0 // #2 RightMain = -37.57, 18.16, 0.95, 719, 19.0 // #3 RightTip = -38.33, 42.13, 3.30, 695, 0.0 // #4 LeftAux = -37.63, -28.84, 1.90, 580, 4.0 // ALTN #1 Center1 = -38.98, -8.545,-0.40, 762, 0.0 // #2 Center2 = -38.98, 8.545,-0.40, 762, 0.0 // #3 RightAux = -37.63, 28.84, 1.90, 580, 4.0 // #4 Hope it works but don't use the loadmaster tool for fuel. My old friend, Cathay Pacific legend, the late Captain 'Chic' Eather flew this aircraft many times. He did about 1800 hours on the DC-6 before going onto Electras and CV-880s and finally 707s.
