I simply deleted all following files in GW Scenery folder:
AB9xxxxx.bgl AP9xxxxx.bgl AT9xxxxx.bgl OB9xxxxx.bgl
Just be aware that "Airport Selection" won't show default airports anymore. For backdating them at the right place I switch back from GW version to the classic one by just renaming the files "sceneryFS9.cfg" or "sceneryGW.cfg" to "scenery.cfg". This allow me to modifiy the default airport with the same AFX tool and saved it in GW Addon Scenery folder.

Thanks Bernard, I suspected that might be your method. I am going to try that. I have separate GW & classic (and modern) copies of FS9. I can use ADE9 to pull up default airports in classic and then compile them to GW I would assume. It certainly would be much nicer to not have to look at all those default airports when flying around in GW and maybe even force me to work on some that I haven’t found elsewhere for GW.

Bernard, So I made the changes in your above post to the North American sections to test and it did make a dramatic difference in the scenery, some good and some not so good. So I used the Chicago area to experiment given I wasn’t sure what each of the file types affected. I noticed that after removing all the file types the bad effects where that the city of Chicago disappeared along with most other cites (caused by the removal of the OB types) and now had auto gen trees etc.. appearing in many of my custom airports like KMDW (because of the removal of AP types).
Putting the files back that gave me the cites back was unsatisfactory. In Chicago’s case It left me with too modern of a scenery and buildings at default airports that were no longer there. So it appears there is a lot of work to compensate for whether these files are present or removed.
I would like to hear your opinion on this. I fly mostly 33 to 37 era in GW in the states but like slightly earlier periods in Europe and elsewhere. I plan to do more experimenting to see what can be achieved as I spend 30-40% of my time in GW.

Hi AI,
Finally it's a simple choice: either keeping the OB files and maintain the cities as they should be as well as the default airport buildings, or deleted them and all the anyoing default airport buildings remaining in the middle of nowhere. Even if several specific buildings are missing consequently. Based on the rather few cities not shown as they should and the purpose getting more or less a vintage world, I definitely choose the second option. Flying over Africa or South America I easily can forgo Empire State and Sydney Opera.
If you have an idea how to achieve both, I of course would extremely appreciate any proposal. Up to now I tried everything. Using default and GW scenery files, but without any result.
BTW, GW Addon Scenery includes a lot of ADE which maintain modern airports. In fact they are needed for using GW default AI traffic ...

I agree overall the second method may be best. Today I experimented with installing one OB file at a time to see what shows up with each at different cities and airports and of course it’s a tedious process so will take some time. Also, welcomed my first grand child into the world this morning who decided to come a few months early so might have little time for FS but will see. Covid19 prevents anyone but the dad visiting while they are in the hospital So may need this to occupy time while waiting.

Hello Goldenrocket. I would love more period scenery throughout Africa. If you know of any, please inform! I have of late been interested in the Imperial Airways flights between London and Cape Town.
