Hi Tom, CA59/62 is looking great. I would be interested in getting an early copy to test as well. I have a huge amount of military ai flying all around so would like to see how it does in the new versions of CA airports.

Hi, For those that want an early look, you need the following files: 1. The new CA59/62 beta file: www.calclassic.com/Temp/ca592k4_beta3.zip (7 MB) Now Beta 3 2. To see the new ramp equipment and oil spots you will need the updated Classic Libraries v3 file: library.avsim.net/esearch.php?DLID=181285&Name=&FileName=&Author=&CatID=root (235 MB) 3. To see the new AI CA Air National Guard C-97 at KVNY, the new AI Neptune at KOAK and KBUR, and the new AI Orion at KBUR, you will need the new AI MATS package: www.calclassic.com/files/ai2k4MATS.zip (9 MB) 4. To see the Rick Helicopters at SFO, you will need the AI Heli package: www.calclassic.com/files/AI_Heli.zip (9 MB) 5. To see the new non-sked propliners at KOAK (ONA DC-7 and World DC-6B), you need file #2 of the AI package: www.calclassic.com/files/ai2k42.zip (19 MB) 6. Finally, to see all the new AI traffic listed above, you need the traffic file of the AI package: www.calclassic.com/files/ai2k4T.zip (17 MB) All can be installed by overwriting your current files; I don't think there is anything special that needs to be done. Back up your plane's aircraft.cfg files if you have converted any to HQ models or added your own liveries. Note that if you don't have CA59/62 installed before, you should follow the instructions on activating the scenery in the Scenery Library, etc. Let me know how it works for you by posting your comments in this forum thread. Since I last posted here I have completed Van Nuys airport (KVNY), and also finished updating LAX with the new ramp equipment, oil spots, taxis, and buses. Enjoy,

Hi Tom, well I downloaded this yesterday and have been testing it all day yesterday and today. First, it looks as good as advertised. Second, there is so much to see it has taken a long time to view the different time periods in both ai and scenery. Oakland is clearly my favorite but not by much, Burbank and KSMO are favorites as well. I am sure there is more I just haven't gotten to it yet. To much ai traffic to watch along with hangers to look into, never know what you’re going to find.
The only issue I am having so far is the LA basin area - seems to be making my machine freak out a lot. At all three airports if I set time to 17:39 (picked because I was watching the helicopters) my system will crash to desk top almost every time just before it reaches 96% or so at launch. If I disable CA59 or 62 it doesn't do that. Disabling the ai doesn't do it either when either CA is checked. Problem doesn't happen at launch if i set times further away from 17:39 but FS still eventually crashes if starting in the LA basin. No issues at all if I start at SFO or Oakland. Unless this is happening with anyone else I think the problem is somewhere in my setup just haven’t found the culprit yet. Love the new ships (old ships) everywhere.
Cheers Al

Hi,
Thanks, glad you are enjoying it.
If you have the helicopter traffic loaded, there can be a situation where the helicopter can cause a crash. At the larger airports the helicopters actually operate out of an "overlay" airport, with a different ICAO code. Sometimes they get "confused", and actually try to "cross over" and use the main airport. When/if this happens, FS will crash. Perhaps you have found one of those situations.
To check this, try renaming the Heli BGL file in the CalClassic AI Traffic folder (for the year you are using). Add .bak to the end of the file so it doesn't end in BGL anymore. Then start up FS and see if you still get the crash.
If that isn't it, it might be due to the change from day time to dusk, when the night textures load. This one would be harder to find...
Hope this helps,

Tom, Al - going back a while, Iain Gallagher's Edinburgh Airport (FS2004) would crash some machines in daylight but was OK with Dusk or Night time - turned out to be because some of the default textures were missing. Reloading them (from CD3 I think) fixed things.
Hope this helps

I was suspecting the second one (given the time). I had unchecked the ai file for each of the years i was testing (so i had no ai except MATs flying but still had the problem with CA 59 or 62 checked. However if I unchecked the scenery and left the AI then I didn't get the crashes (at least not everytime I loaded it). I really hadn't flown these airports in a long time (doing a lot of east coast, europe and africa) so I don't know if this was happening with the original CA files or not. While writing this I had FS going on in the background following an ai united convair out of LGB. I quess its been maybe 5 minutes out. FS just just down again. Oh well, will keep experimenting.
If your not experiencing this then it has to be my machine. I am runing XP on a gateway 2ghz dual processor. with a 1GB memory and a 1gb gforces 9500gt graphics card. Not alot of memory but it hasn't been crashing as consistantly as it is doing right now.

I haven't had a crash in Southern California in quite a while, and the few times I did I think it was a due to a helicopter departing LAX or SMO. Hope you can find it...

I think your right Tom, its my system and who knows with all the addons I have. I will continue to play with it and hopefully some common result will show me the way.
Mike, thanks for the info. I am seeing another problem as well with textures. the focused land textures (those nearest to me while flying are all green in my classic fs setup (I use silverwings in this environment). In my modern setup for FS this isn't happening and I am not sure when it started. Just seemed to notice it lately. Think i will reinstall textures to see if this solves the problem.

Ok, I have reloaded Silver Wings and the crash to desktop went away along with the green zone. I obviously updated some specific textures along the way that screwed things up. After some test I went back to loading LAX at 17:39 on a Monday as I did before and she loaded just fine. However I used trafficboard to follow the AI helos in the 1957 ai files (time = Monday 17:50)and she locked up just before takeoff. Trying it again.
Update: followed a United Convair instead at the same time as the Helos (17:50) and as long as I kept the United Convair as the focus of the ai flight following, no CTD. Strange!!! Follow the Helos and get CTD. Almost 1am, time to take a break.

Hi, Well, glad to hear we are down to a known crash problem from the unknown one. Yes, the helos can be very odd - I will go weeks without a problem and then suddenly get a couple of crashes due to their departure. The only way I know to fix that would be to place the heliports relatively far away from the main airport, which would be unfortunate.

Really, you did again a great job - thanks to all!
Up to now I didn't dedected any problem. Honestly I still spend my time to recover some adds in the new Afcad's. So it will takes me some days to appreciate fully the update. Just one thing: AI Neptune is missing the .air file (must certainly be "AI_Neptune.air" I got once from Noel). BTW, should this aircraft appear at KAOK with one of the traffic files?

Hi, You're welcome. Well, I somehow did miss the AIR file. I have uploaded an updated MATS package that contains the file, but if you have installed it already, download this little file: www.calclassic.com/Temp/Neptune_AI.airand place it into the FS/Aircraft/AI Neptune folder. The Neptune traffic at OAK will only be seen occasionally - try going to the airport at 16:00 GMT and you should see one or two. You will also not see them in the 1962 traffic, since all military aircraft had been transferred elsewhere by then. Thanks,

Tom, I just noticed the National City Lines bus parked in front of the Oakland terminal. WoW. What memories that brought back to me. My uncle was a mechanic on those buses in Tulsa for 18 years. I normally rode my bike to school, but when the wx was bad I would ride the NCL bus. All of the drivers knew me and I seldom ever had to pay a bus fare unless it was a new driver...That bus paint scheme was used throughout the U.S.
