As known, The Pilatus PC-6 is a single-engine STOL aircraft made by the Swiss manufacturer Pilatus Aircraft. It was produced from 1959 to 2022. The last two ones left the factory in the middle of last December. Tragically one of these crashed on Crete during ferry flight. In 1960, the first prototype set off on a journey to Nepal. Baptized with the name "Yeti", he provided services for the Swiss Dhaulagiri expedition in the Himalayas. The Porter has flown numerous material and passenger transports with a full payload to an altitude of 5700 m above sea level, earning an entry in the Guinness Book of Records for the highest landing ever made by a fixed-wing aircraft. he first Turbo-Porters were handed over to the French Air Alpes, a Swiss customer, Wien Alaska Airlines and Northern Consolidated Airlines in 1962. On a delivery flight to Alaska in December 1962, two Pilatus Porters made an unscheduled stopover at Hagerstown, Maryland. (repaints certainly not acurate of course) Mechanics from Fairchild Aircraft based there should carry out a repair. The subsequent check flight was used by the pilot to demonstrate the aircraft's STOL characteristics to the Fairchild command. Impressed by the machine's capabilities, Fairchild hired a Porter and began negotiations for resale and licensing. In December 1964, a corresponding contract was concluded. Some neighbours at Hagerstown Airport: Fokker F-27 also built under licence there. Bernard

Yes, it appears Fairchild was very adept at finding foreign aircraft with sales potential in the US. Nice work.

Some good information about both the Pilatus Porter and Fairchild. Nicely presented shots of them as well.
