Hi all!
I've been away for some months for a sabbatical! ;D
As some know I had a problem with my Hard Drive and that meant the loss of all my Classic files for the last year. I lost all Frank's repaints, Eddie's files, Randy's repaints and other files he so kindly sent to me and the majority of Calclassics files. Also all the files related to the DC-4 fuel modifications. Sorry, Marteen, I saw your question, but didn't have anything to answer and still don't know how the project is going.
I decided to give myself a break and to pursue other environments. I was also a bit worried with some developments with the fs community as a general.
The announcement from MS of the end of MSFS initially made me thing that was a bad think in its principle. But an answer from Tom in another forum made me see it in a different way. Sadly some payware developers are still pushing people to buy products for fsx. It is certainly the case of Captain Sim where they stopped all development for FS9, leaving me and many others with an half baked 757.
Other developers, mainly of freeware, have seen this as an opportunity to develop further into FS9 and X, now that the platforms are stable and no one is waiting for a FSXI. In fact, I say that FSXI is already here in the form of a mature and highly tweaked FS9!
But, it was concerns in what direction the Starliner project would take, with some "fsx kids" coming to the fore with endless questions about "does this work in fsx?", "can we have it in fsx?" and so on that ultimately made me go away instead of being an old fart, that undoubtedly I am, protesting every time someone said the word fsx or for that matter the "new kid on the block": wide screens!
I shouldn't be so worried! I took the Starliner 2.2 for a spin for the first time only yesterday and all was OK. I could still manage the props and could remember all the small details about its operation and the different settings for the flight.
Manfred did a most splendid job! For sure, I miss those large gauges and the Notepad from version 1.1, the last one I flew. But it is a great aircraft and if it can be enjoyed by those "fsx kids in nappies" (Sorry!), so much better! ;D
So, I left without a word or a tear, enjoying my FS9 and all the payware and freeware products I've been accumulating! And backing up this time 2x and even more!
When I was at the Classic Aviation Server, it seems that I earned a reputation that I didn't like VAs. Well, that lead me to try one of them and see what they look like! ;D
I'm afraid that I enjoyed it so much that have done more than 1400 hours in one and now I'm a Senior Captain with Thomson Virtual!
But, they don't fly propliners! I looked for others who could offer a more diverse experience and end up signing for 2 others.
I found out that there are many people out there simming with VAs that fly Classic aircraft that they enjoy a lot, but don't know much about it and are eager to know and fly more of these very fine aircraft that this community has given us without asking anything back!
I do have a small and big request for you:
If anyone has schedules from the 50's, 60's or even 70's that show what aircraft did what route, I would love to have a copy in whatever format. It is for one of the VA groups I'm with. I'm looking for schedules for KLM, Lufthansa, Continental, Cathai, JAL Air France. They are missing many routes for the Connies and DC-6. If someone has schedules that show the Comets and Caravelle I would very much appreciate that! Tom, Jason, Wolfgang, anyone who could help me?
Many thanks in advance!
To Eddie and Randy Cain: I lost your files for the DC-4 fuel crossfeeds. How is the project?
To Tom: I don't seem to have your files for FSAviator FDE and Notepad for the Starliner 1.1. I noticed on your Starliner page an FDE file for the 2.1 version. Does this comes with the Notepad?
If not and you still have the old versions for the 1.1, could you send them to me, please?
On a sad note, the release today of the L-1049G Super Constellation reminded me that the SCFA Constellation is no longer for sale. They closed shop last February! Another one I see that is lost forever!
They say variety is the spice of life. So lets have lots more models for FS!
Soft Landings!
