Good day everyone. I'm looking for the best engine sound for JBK's Bristol Britannia, in 2023. Any suggestions?
Regards Andrew

I use a Proteus sound package from Fraser McKay specifically for the Mike Stone Britannia, it seems to reflect the sounds of the aircraft from YouTube videos reasonably well. Not sure where it came from, but suspect that it might have been part of his Britannia panel package for FS9.

Edit: Search Flightsim.com for :FS2002 Bristol Proteus Sounds. I cannot access Flightsim files anymore but a Google search turned up the link.

Thanks everyone. Tom, I see that Terry Hall's sounds are for the FSX Britannia. Do you think it would work correctly in FS9?

I have used FSX sounds in FS9 before, but you just have to try them - some do, some don't.

I have been looking for a "good" set of Britannia sounds for many years, so far unsuccessfully - but then again I have never heard one in action so I don't know what they should sound like, especially from inside the cockpit. And I don't always trust old film as sounds are often dubbed on.
So on reading about them I was very keen to try these FSX ones in FS9 - I don't think the boys will be round banging on my door and confiscating my computer for doing so, I suspect the author's words are to prevent unreasonable support enquiries.
Like many FSX sound sets in FS9, they sound a bit muffled and clinical and even with volume set at 100% I found the engine noises just a fraction too quiet for my taste in certain modes of flight - especially during descent. But they didn't call these aircraft "Whispering Giants" for nothing, maybe they really were that quiet. I wouldn't question that they work well and sound good in FSX, but it is perhaps a matter of taste for the individual in FS9.
I will try the FS2002 sound set next, if it is from Fraser McKay I would have thought it shouldn't be bad!

I did indeed try the FS2002 set, and whilst I wouldn't want to sound negative in view of the work obviously put into it all those years ago, it doesn't really meet the standards we have grown to demand over the years.
But once again, "beauty is in the ear of the beholder" so I would always recommend trying what there is available and not depending totally on the views of others.

I currently have the test soundset files for the Britannia that was being developed by the late Garry Russell, that is what I have been using for over 10 years now, those sounds come directly from a set of BBC 45 RPM records. I1ll see who was the author and ask.

From the file names they seem different to anything I have tried before, so these may indeed be the ones you mention. When I get a moment to try them, they might turn out to be just what I've been dreaming of for years. John

I think they sound ok, but I've never properly heard a Proteus compared to something more common like a Dart. Would you say that the sound is good? Regards Andrew

John linked their forum with a sound file and like him was wondering if those are the files that you use. Regards Andrew

Regards Andrew Hi, yes the Britannia project included sounds done by a good fellow by the name of Neville, he was part of the project and it was being worked under CBFS. Best Regards. Ed.
